PAGE 4 March 11, 1977 Don't have counterspace for microwave? Build a center! Microwave ovens are to days fastest selling major appliance. Homemakers are snap ping them up in record numbers--nearly 2,000,000 units are expected to be sold during 1977. The reason is not just their speed at meal prepa ration, but because of the convenience and flexibility they offer, and the good cooking results that are possible with newer models. Then, too, because some types and amounts of foods can be cooked up to four times faster by micro- waving than by conven tional methods, there are potential savings on the electric bill to be consid ered. Now there is some good news for the homemaker who would like to get on the microwave bandwagon but whose present kitchen doesn't have the counter- space to spare for one of the popular eountertop models. General Electric Com pany has introduced for kitchen modernization and remodeling two Micro- wave Cooking Centers which offer the latest in microwave features in ad dition to a deluxe conven tional electric oven with the Self-Cleaning system, one of the most sought after range features. The microwave oven used in both microwave Cooking Centers offers the convenience of both timed and temperature con trolled cooking. There's a 60-minute dig ital timer for those foods best prepared by time, and GE's Automatic Chef con trol for accurate, no- guesswork temperature cooking of many foods to the desired serving temp erature you choose. Automatic Chef is an ex clusive feature of OE Mi crowave Cooking Centers --automatic temperature control is not offered by any other manufacturer in this type of cooking equip ment. A special electronic tem perature probe is Inserted into the food to be cooked, and the probe is connected to an outlet on the oven wall. The user then selects the internal temperature de sired--referring either to the cookbook provided with the appliance, or the receipe guide on the con trol panel--sets the power level, and punches the Start button. When the cooking is complete, the oven turns itself off and audibly signals the home- maker. The built-in model has variable power microwave cohtrol, offering an almost unlimited selection of power levels from about 100-watts to 625-watts for total cooking flexibility. The hi-lo range model of fers three proven micro wave cooking powers: low, medium/defrost and high. It's a courageous leg islator who ignores the lobbyists and the pressure groups. • • * • There's no law against courtesy at home and at the wheel of your automo bile. • * • • ' Do you think human nature needs changing?
