This rate of use, slightly higher than last year's record rate, cannot be sustained for the remainder 'of the marketing year due to tight supplies, according to the "Fats and Oils Situation", published by the U.S. Depart ment of Agriculture's Economic Research service (ERS). Soybean supplies on Jan. 1 stood at slightly over one billion bushels, down one-fifth from a year earlier, and they may stand at only seventy-five million bushels when the new be opened at 6:00 o'clock A.M. and will be closed at 6:00 o'clock P.M. on the date of the election. Only qualified and registered voters shall be permitted to vote and voters must vote at the polling place designated above. By order of the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of McCullom Lake, McHenry County, Illinois. Dated this 8th day of March, 1977. Allan E. McKim Village President Attest: Karen Parks Village Clerk (Pub. Mar. 30.1977) marketing year begins Sept. 1, 1977. "A Carryover of seventy-five million bushels approaches minimum levels," says Stanley Gazelle, ERS soybean economist. "It's probably a two-week operating supply." Gazelle expects rising prices to ration the remaining supply from now until the new crop arrives in the fall. Farmers in their ^varly January planting intentions indicated that they may plant fifty million acres to soybeans, 6 percent more than int 1976. Plantings may be up in the corn belt, where prices favor soybeans over corn by almost three to one. If prices to far mers keep advancing, farmers may be tempted to increase acreage even more than six percent. Production this year would have to total 1.5 billion bushels, 18 percent more than the 1976 crop, to ease the tight supply situation. Man's real life is happy, chiefly because he is ever expecting that it soon will be so. -E.A.
