The appointment twaS announced by Senate nority Leader David C. Shapiro of Am boy. "I am very pleased to again , be serving on the Tollway Advisory commission," *• Senator Schaffer said of his < appointment. "Toll highways in ^ the metropolitan area are a y vital concern to many residents of the 33rd District." He con- >; tinued: "Recently a plan was • revealed to convert Route 53 >< from Richmond to Joliet to a tollway. I am opposed to this J"- proposal and my membership • on the advisory commission will give residents of our district an opportunity to - communicate our desires. -- "At the same time there is talk of converting Route 53 to a tollway, other proposals for an increase in the state tax on gasoline for highway im- { provements. I could not support (two such proposals hand-in-hand. It would be a double blow t to people in our area. { "The northern metropolitan i area is surrounded by toll high- i' ways now while many other i sections are not. I will firmly J resist efforts to add another t tollway to our region." "In my opinion the primary objective of the tollway system in the next few years should be to improve existing service rather than looking for new tollways," Schaffer stated. "Improving access to the present system should receive higher priority than ex pansion." Mental vacations are more necessary than physical rest. It's remarkable how many foolish statements wise men make. Come in and browse, you'll get ideas for furnishing your bath and discover many charming gifts. ®. h. P tyl ^ 3012 W.
