Kent found himself dow n by a 5-2 score in the first set and he started to spark as he won the remaining games to capture the first set by a 7-5 victory. Kent refused to let up and trounced his opponent with six auick wins in the final set to give him a string of 11 straight as he captured the match with 7-5 and 6-0 sets to record his first victory of the season. The team captured their home opener and they will participate in a quad tourney Saturday. April 2. Coach A1 McGuire guided his Marquette basketball team through to the championship in the rugged NCAA tournament in Atlanta McGuire has made it known to all that this would be his last year as coach at Marquette where he was sometimes known as a storm center and always known as a winner. SPORTS EDITOR Not many thought Marquette could take the crown. It didn't come out that way on paper. But. champions they are -- all because of fierce desire and the know-how of a great coach. Lenny Randle didn't do much for his image or his future when he punched his manager around bad enough to break his cheek bone with the Most Improved Swimmer award along with his first varsity letter. Heinrich swims the individual medley, butterfly and breaststroke. He was also conference champion in the Frosb-Soph 100 yard breaststroke. At least he won't be back with the Texas Rangers. Frofn the stories we read. Randle thought his .228 batting average as s regular last year should keep him at the second base post Now, what manager will want Randle? Maybe Chuck Tanner. We heard Tanner say one time that he never lost a fight in his life Up in Johnsburg they are on a fund raising program to bring back the Tiger baseball team. What about the McHenry Shamrocks? Are there any plans for a team this year? We are willing and anxious to give such a program a boost through publicity the same as we have for Johnsburg. Just let us know. Bob Green returned from Florida and brought a story from the Sarasota Herald- Tribune about a former Pistakee area resident. Andrew McAnsh. Sarasota needed a good hotel back in the 20s, so McAnsh made an offer - he would build a hotel, an apartment building and a 'nautatorium" down town if the city gave him free light and water and would not levy any taxes against the buildings for 10 years. It wis agreed. The whole shebang was finished in record time, with an auditorium rather than a "nautatorium". No report from Bob on the White Sox camp. Bet he doesn't know a baseball from a tennis ball. Area Man To Organize SWIMMERS HONORED-MCHS swim coach Mike Shanahan at left, presented awards to Jim Murray and Bill Heinrich of the Warrior varsity swim team. Murray, a senior, and co-captain of the team captured the Most Valuable Swimmer trophy. He's a three year varsity lettermen and swam the individual medley, breaststroke and backstroke.
