Tom Walkington With Soil Consery^«r£ ̂ ' v * TOM WALKINGTON Tom Walkington, soil con servationist trainee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walkington, Ringwood, has reported to the Oregon field office of the Soil Conservation service in Oregon, 111. He recently completed a master's degree in Forest Recreation Land-Use Planning at Southern Illinois university, Carbondale. While at southern, Tom worked on land use planning at Crab Orchard National Wildlife refuge and ih«-La Rue Pine Hills area of Jh?; Shawnee National forest. Hera 1 so served as a teaching mfi&ant for one semester. ^./Walkington received his B.S. degree in Park Management from 'V Western Illinois university, Macomb, in March, 1975. While an undergraduate, he served an internship with the Illinois Department of Conservation, Division of Public Lands, where he d e v e l o p e d i n t e r i m management plans for eleven state parks in southern Illinois. He also served as chairman of the planning committee for development of an outdoor education center at Western. Before going to college, he served four years with the U.S. Navy Air Force as an aviation storekeeper. While in the Navy, he made two trips to Antarctica with Antarctic Development Squadron Six. He was a volunteer and served as a para- rescue team member making twenty parachute jumps over the Antarctic continent. Tom was married to the former Maya Stauber, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, in 1972.
