Brian and Suzi had fun with mom and dad and they went on every ride and into almost every show in the entire Kingdom One day the family toured the Kennedy Space center where among the truly amazing sights they saw the space shuttle craft being prepared for flight. Another day was spent at the amazing Sea World where the family enjoyed all the shows and the children especially enjoyed the tribute to all the super heroes who displayed TAXPAYERS! Re-elect BILL BRDA City Treasurer their tremendous talents as water skiers in a variety of costumes "that included Bat­ man. Robin, Superman. Super Girl. Wonder Woman and her mother, the Queen, and their court and many others. After their Florida fun the family went to Columbus. Ga., where they visited with Steve's sister who is in graduate school at. the University of Auburn The Moore's took their time coming home to McHenry and had mixed feelings when they pulled into town. They hated to end their ten day vacation but were indeed happy to be home It was a fun time that the entire family enjoyed. FEELING BETTER We're happy to hear that Lester Dobbins is home from McHenry hospital following recent eye surgery and that he's recuperating nicely. His wife, Mary, is very happy to have him home too! A speedy recovery is wished for you. Les. RECOVERING We are happy to report that Autry Harper is home again after her stay at the hospital. Autry had surgery at McHenry hospital but is now home recuperating We wish to add our best ' wishes along with all of her neighbors and friends for a speedy recovery and our hope that she will soon be back to feeling fine. CARD PARTY Last week John and Sharon Gacek had some good friends over for cards Len and Gerry Stutz drove up from Bartlett to play a few games of pinochle The women were terrific and showed up the men by winning both games The men wished they had the finesse and luck that the women had Naturally Gerry and Sharon had a more enjoyable evening than Len and John Next time try harder! If you spaded your garden last fall, rake out a seed bed when the soil surface is dry enough that you can form a ball of soil in your hand and then crumble it without it becoming pasty. Vegetable varieties which do well in cool weather include peas, carrots, radishes, cab­ bage, spinach and brocolli. Flower varieties best sown early include sweetpeas, larkspur, Bachelor Button and annual poppies. Onion sets can also be planted now for early green onions. Bare root trees and shrubs should be planted as soon as possible. Early planting allows development of new roots before leaves begin to develop. Plants dug bare root after leafing out do not transplant as well. When you buy plants bare root, ball and burlapped, or in containers, check for freshness. Buds and twigs should not be dry or shriveled; evergreens should have good color, and should be free of insects or diseases. Begin removing winter protection from perennials, but. be ready to replace it during unusually cold or dry windy weather. Leaving the plants covered during warm weather will cause soft growth and may result in disease problems. Spring lawn fertilization should be done gingerly. It is becoming increasingly evident that heavy applications of nitrogen in spring are closely related to incidence of Fusarium patch disease in mid­ summer. We will be telling you more about this later. As broadleaf weeds begin to grow, control them with 2. 4-D type weed killers. Apply weed killers carefully and according to directions on the label to avoid injury to desirable flowers and shrubs.
