It is an era marked foremost by the consolidation of St. Mary's and St. Patrick's schools into one unified school system. It is also an era in which Catholic education in McHenry grew and expanded through the efforts of many persons. It is the era of Sister Mary Paulina, principal of Montini grade school. Come the end of this school year, Sister Paulina will be leaving McHenry, and the school and parish which she served for thirteen years. She will be missed. She will NOT be forgotten. Sister Paulina's thirteen years in McHenry were split, serving as principal from 1962-1968, and again from 1970 to the present. * She explained that in 1968 there was a rule in her order, the Sisters of Mercy, Province of Chicago, that prohibited her from staying in one position more than six years. That rule was changed, and she has been the principal at Montini for the last seven years. Throughout her career in McHenry, Sister Paulina feels her proudest moment was "seeing the success of the consolidation of two parish schools. It is a source of pride," she added, "pride in the priests, sisters, lay- teachers, parents, and students who risked so much to bring the Montini Catholic grade school into existence." Besides her fulltime responsibilities as a principal, Sister Paulina devoted almost every waking moment to Catholic education. She was principal of the C.C.D. program for six years, and a teacher in the C C D. program for the last seven years. She is a member of the Montini School board, and also of the St Patrick's Parish council. Sister Paulina is a member of the Liturgy committee, a member of the St. Patrick's Religious Education board, and a member of the McHenry County Catholic Schools' Principals' organization. With all her work involving Catholic education in McHenry, and all the friends she has made, Sister Paulina said that she will miss the people of McHenry most of all. "I know I will miss the people of McHenry, especially the little children," she said. "As the time is approaching for me to leave, I have reflected deeply on my commitment here. 'The people of McHenry have been a source of strength, support, and inspiration to me," she added. "I have shared their joys and sorrows. Part of me will be left here, I'm sure. However, what is really important is that I have left a little of Him, Christ, here." Sister Paulina has been involved in education for over thirty years. She calls her decision to leave the education field and go into health care, "one of the biggest decisions of my life." Sister Paulina's firm commitment to the concept of a school being a community of believers in Christ and His teachings has been a strong force in her life. Also, she has given top priority to developing positive attitudes in early childhood. "I am pleased that the educational field is placing more emphasis on early childhood education," she said. "Our adult lives often reflect the many conditions that influenced our early education." Sister Paulina studied theology at Mundelein college and at McHenry County college. She graduated from St. Xavier college, Chicago, and received her Master's degree from Northern Illinois university. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Stern, Jr. of Chicago, announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Hope, to Bruce H. Bohuslav, son of Mrs. Wally Bohuslav, formerly of McHenry. Linda is a graduate of Latin high school of Chicago and is a University of Wisconsin graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Bruce attended McHenry high schools, earned a BA degree 0 from Rippon college. Wis. and was awarded a Master in Business Administra4ion degree from Emory college, Ga.
