Legner resides in the McHenry community WAYNE GAYLORD PHOTO Attracting many fine artists from McHenry county, the Country Art Fair offers an exciting three-day exhibit of original art. The fair consists of a judged show which offers cash prizes, one-man show, a gymnasium exhibit, and a McHenry County college dislpay One of the unique artists entering the Fair is Don Legner of Johnsburg. Legner's art form is stained glass which dates back to the 1200 s in France. Beginning about four years ago, his first creations were small sun-catchers of animals or flowers. Accepting the challenge of the art, Legner advanced to projects including a two-foot square bath window. 2 by 4 foot fixtures for the kitchen's fluorescent lighting, and a harlequin room divider Largely self-taught, as educational materials and supplies are hard to obtain. Legner creates original designs into works of art. "The process is difficult and tedious - you pretty much have to feel your way in learning the art," stated Legner. The design must first be drawn on paper to the exact size and carefully cut using precision scissors. Each piece of glass is then cut exactly to the pattern size. The final step is to glaze or solder and assemble. Legner has shown in the McHenry Art Fair in the past and will be returning again in this year's twenty-first annual Art Fair Parkland school is the site for the fair to be held June 3. 4 and 5. Sponsored by the Woman's auxiliary to McHenry hospital, the successful event raises funds to purchase equipment for the hospital McHenry county artists interested in entering the fair may address a postcard to Mrs. Nicholas Gemell, 4313 New Hampshire trail.
