SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALER - PAGE 18 - WEDNESDAY. MAY 4. 1977 Sundress leads summer fashion lineup for all The generation gap has vanished -- at least in terms of summer fashion. This year, the sundress returns without any age limits. It's as popular with the tiniest tot as the most sophisticated adult, accord ing to Marcia Usatch, fash ion director for Marsha's Vineyard. Marcia, whose fashions are styled for sizes 4 to 14, including pre-teens, says the favorite new young sun fashion is the sizzler -- styled with shoe-string straps and a shirred bodice. Prints are sometimes small, sometimes large, al ways bright. Often, a second print is added as a border or pockets, for extra fashion fun. Romantic Edwardian styles also are important, says Marcia. especially in white eyelet fabrics. They look delicate, but are actu ally as easy to care for as prints. The dresses are styled with tricks often reserved only for grown-up girls. For instance, Marcia noted, only light or bright colors are used near the face. They're always more flat tering, even for youngsters. The dresses also can move into the early fall season, layered with T-tops or shirts. Beating the bathing suit blues Bathing suit blues got you down? You can disguise a multi tude of sins with the right bathing suit. Heavy thighs benefit from a suit with cuffed or "teddy bear" bottoms, rather than the regular elasticized fit. A well-fitted one piece suit will minimize tummy bulge and hippiness. as long as you avoid horizontal stripes and too-wild prints. Leave the "strings" to the stringbeans!
