Squad Car DamagedK Even "McHenry's Finest" aren't immune to the hazard* of traveling the overcrowded streets of McHenry, as Officer Raymond Gregorio Jr. discovered Monday afternoon. This car was struck by a vehicle which apparently ran a red light at the corner of Elm and Green. The driver, Edward Ahrens of Woodstock was ticketed for the offense. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD A Woodstock man was ticketed for disobeying a stop light after running into a McHenry police car Monday afternoon at the intersection of Green street and Rt. 120. Edward Ahrens was cited after colliding with the police car driven by Officer Raymond Gregorio, Jr., who resides in McHenry. Neither driver was injured in the crash which caused ex­ tensive damage to the front of the squad car. Gregorio seated that he was northbound on Green street and w^s proceeding through the intersection with Elm street when he was struck on the front, right side by Ahrens. Ahrens stated that he was westbound on Rt. 120 and had just changed lanes. He added that he apparently failed to notice that the light had changed and contact was made. In other accidents, Gloria J. DeRosa, 2617 Knob Hill road, McHenry, was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way following a two-car collision Friday at the intersection of Rt. 120 and Front street. Neither Ms. DeRosa, nor the driver of the other car, Michael W. Garske, 812 N. Oeffling, McHenry, was injured in the crash which caused more than $100 damage to the Garske auto. Ms. DeRosa stated that she was making a left turn from westbound Elm street onto southbound Front street. She added that she did not see the Garske car, who was eastbound on Elm street, until it was too late to avoid contact. Garske stated that he was eastbound on Elm street, and as he entered the intersection of Elm and Front, the DeRosa car made a left turn from west­ bound Elm to southbound Front. Millicient J. Thomas, Arlington Heights, sustained a broken finger and a shoulder injury in a two-car accident Monday afternoon at the Elm- Front intersection. Neither Ms. Thomas, nor the driver of the other car, James J. Klema, 4105 W. Lake Shore drive, Wonder Lake, was ticketed in the crash which caused more than $150 damage to the Klema auto. Ms. Thomas stated she was westbound on Rt. 120, coming into the intersection of Front and Elm, when Klema made a left turn in front of her. She further stated that she was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident. Klema stated he had the green light and traffic looked clear so he turned left. He added that Ms. Thomas was "right there" and contact was made. Donald D. Schiavone of 4701 McCullom Lake road in McHenry was ticketed for improper lane usage following a two-car accident last week on Main street. He was cited after striking a parked car owned by Brian A. Riley of Woodstock, causing more than $100 damage to each vdiicle. Riley stated that he was inside the McHenry Printing building when he was notified that someone had struck his car. Schiavone stated that he was eastbound on Main street, and upon approaching the in­ tersection of Main and Front street, he saw a the Riley vehicle at the intersection close to the curve. Finally, Scott W. Schiavone, 4312 Dennis boulevard, McHenry, ran into the mailbox in front of the Pizza Hut restaurant Saturday night, knocking the mailbox onto the hood of a car driven by Craig P. Carlson of Ingleside. Schiavone was not ticketed in connection with the incident which caused more than $100 damage to both cars. The mailbox was valued at fifty dollars. Carlson stated he was stopped in the driveway of the Pizza Hut when Schiavone approached from the west and struck the mailbox, knocking it Boafer Hurt When Craft Hits Reef A McHenry man was injured last week when the boat he was riding in struck a mud reef in the Fox river and became marooned. Robert Allen, 37, 902 Hayden drive, received head injuries when he fell in the craft as the boat struck the reef. The boat's other occupant, Michael Theige, 23, 3327 Elm street, McHenry, was not in­ jured. At 11:15 p.m. police received information that boaters were in distress on the Fox river, off the post and onto the hood of his car. Schiavone stated he had just turned onto Rt. 120, and that his steering did not recover in time as he accelerated, causing him to go partially onto the curb where he struck the' mailbox. From there, Allen was taken to McHenry hospital. Arrest Area Youth For No Driver License A Wonder Lake youth was arrested and charged u with driving while his license was suspended by a McHenry county police officer last week. Dale Konecny, 19, 4718 Winnebago drive, was stopped by a police officer who ob­ served the car accelerating rapidly northbound on Valley Hill road from Bull Valley road. The officer stated that he stopped the vehicle to warn the driver when he discovered that Konecny had no valid driver's license.
