ANDOTHER CREATURESOF THE WILD Eight thousand boys, all in one place at the same time, can be a real problem but not when all the boys are Scouts and are all gathered together for a heck of a big campout. The boys from the village, Rick Connell, Mike Fullmer, Craig Johnson, and Mike Priko, arrived on a bright sunny day in Galena. The first order of business was a tour of this historic town and Grant's home in particular, the boys learning new facets of Grant's life in his restored house. Lake Galena, blue and refrshing beckoned to the Scouts, promising a weekend of adventure They visited museums, stores and churches, before returning to their homes away from home. Camp Aqua- Na WOMEN'S CLUB The Holiday Hills Women's club journeyed to the Pheasant Run playhouse for a night of total enjoyment. The evening began with cocktails and dinner. HAVE A NICE DAY Recycling Drive Set In McHenry Saturday Saturday, May 21, will be Recycling day in McHenry, as well as in Woodstock, Crystal Lake, Cary, Harvard, Lake-in- the-Hills, and Lake Zurich. Residents are encouraged to gather bundles of newspapers and magazines; clean, flat tened cans with labels removed; clean green, brown, and clear bottles and jars; and all-aluminum cans and other all-aluminum products such as TV dinner trays or aluminum siding scraps. Recyclers are reminded that the bi metal can cannot be recycled It must be dusposed of by way of your regular trash removal. The Beverage Container act, referred to as the "bottle bill", failed to pass the state Legislature recently. Con sequently, recyclers say that for as least another year the non-recyclable, non-returnable bi metal can will continue to decorate roadsides, fill our landfills, and worst of all, waste millions of gallons of oil daily in the production of one-way throwaways. Members of the McHenry County Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and McHenry County Defenders will be on hand Saturday from 9 until 5 to help unload recyclable materials from cars, provide individuals with rope they might need for future paper» bundling, and also prepare the materials "for the next step on the road to being reused. Anyone having questions regarding the recycling of paper, bottles, and cans, or anyone having a large quantity of paper that needs to be picked up, should call Mrs. William (Alice) Howenstine at 385-8512 or Rick Hohimer by Friday evening. Crime Resistance Tips Resist Theft Don't leave valuables in plain sight in your car. They are vulnerable to theft. Lock your valuables in the trunk of your car. A car door lock provides little protection. Reduce Theft A keychain with the ignition key easily removable may prevent theft from your car if you have to leave the key with the parking lot. Resist Purse Snatchers Do you really need to carry that purse or could you get by with a wallet or small purse carried in your pocket? Resist Assault Avoid travel alone especially at night. Let someone know where you are going and when you will arrrive or return home.
