Woodstock Die Casting as known today set its roots 65 years ago in a small Chicago garage. Through the start-up efforts of a Swedish immigrant and a continuing record of achievement by past and present employees, the organization expanded from a modest "Alley Shop" into a multi-capability custom die casting operation. During those 65 years the plant operated under various corporate titles. In 1912, it was Alemite Metals, then Alemite Die Casting. In 1935 the operation joined with the Electric Autolite Company, and took the name Autolite Die Casting. When Electric Autolite merged with Mergenthaler-Linotype in 1963 to form ELTRA Corporation, this division became Woodstock Die Casting. The same years have seen the plant evolve phoenix-like from the bricks of an antiquated structure built in 1893 by the Tappan Steam Pump Company, through expansion by the Oliver Typewriter Company and further major improvements by ELTRA into the modern automated manufacturing complex of today. Capabilities to furnish functional and decorative parts from zinc and aluminum completely machined, painted, plated and assembled, are coupled with a reputation for high qua lity, engineering service, and on-time performance. The employees are proud of their record of achievement and market-place reputation. Quality and performance have been the watch words for years. To gain an awareness of their accomplishments, an Open House is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, from noon until 4:00 P.M.Please mark your calendars, and bring your family to an informative visit of a die casting operation. The Lake Region YMCA was established in. 1964 and moved into its permanent home, on Route 31, just south of Route 14, in 1973. As evidence of the growth of the "Y" and the region it serves, officials provided some comparative statistics. In the year the "Y" was established. area was 65,000. Today it is approximately 130,000. In its first year slightly more than 200 people participated in "Y" activities. Participation in 1977 is expected to come close to 13,000 people. Annual at tendance at "Y" activities in 1964 was 2,500. This year it will exceed 160,000. In its first year the "Y" offered seven programs to its members. Today almost fifty programs and activities are offered. All of these statistics will increase significantly over the next few years, according to official estimates. The service area of the Lake Region YMCA includes Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Cary, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Island Lake.
