PAGE 22 -~PL.AINDEAL.ER - WEDNESDAY. JUNE 1. 1977 There's an Answer! by Norman Vincent Peale and Ruth Stafford Peale New Direction Q For some time now 1 have had something pulling at me- telling me I must start going slowly in another direction. I have been a good mother of lour very special sons and have devoted the past twenty years to mv home and bovs I've had some ot my poetry published and have won awards for my art work I love to study and read: 1 feel I will always be the "student" type I'm interested in medical and philosophical things I've prayed, for God to tell me if 1 should concentrate fully on my art and writing or go back to school to study nursing or just to study. I feel I'm too scattered in my actions and want to dedicate myself to one area. I truly feel God has something great planned for me. if I could just decide what it is. Would you advise me1 A Perhaps instead of praying to the Lord and in effect telling Him to guide you to be an artist or a writer or a student, it might make more sense just to ask Him what His will is for you. It could be He simply wants you to go on being a wonderful person and a good mother and wife However, there is no reason why you cannot be the foregoing and at the same time be a student. A mother-wife- student career is not im possible It can be a worthwhile life style and,can slowly draw you in a special direction. In this vou mav find that " something gre^t'* which God has planned for you. We have a booklet. "This Thing Called Guidance," which has helped others with questions such as yours, and a copy of it is on its way to you. Anyone reading this column who wishes a free copy may write for one. Address your request to Dr and Mrs. Peale. Box 500, Pawling. N Y. 12564. Divorced Male Q I'm 35. male, divorced four years. I don't have any extra money to date, don't know anvone I would like to date. I'm stuck on this question. I don't want to remarry, but I desire sex. But to have sex outside of marriage is sin What is a person to do0 Go though the rest of his life without any sexual conduct? A. The sex urge is formal and was built into you by your Creator The Christian moral code is based on the fact that it has been proven better that a man should have one wife and adhere Jo her only in sex relationships If you desire to live without sin. which in our opinion is the right and proper way of con duct, then you should recon sider your disinclination to marry. Find yourself a good wife and live a normal married life. The mere fact that your first marriage may have been an unhappy one does not mean that your next marriage may not be entirely different. Can't Love Husband Q. My husband who is in his 50's had an affair with a 19- year-old girl. Believe me, it hurts me so much even to think about it. I just can't seenruto forget it. I have forgiven him, but the hurt is still there. I won't ever trust my husband again or believe in him. He has ruined our marriage. Whenever he touches me I just feel my blood run cold. A year has passed and not once has he told me he is happy with staying with me and not once has he made love to me. Gee, how it hurts me to see that he takes me for granted. Please, a little word of advice. A. Better change your at titude or you may drive him into another affair. It may very well be that your husband is sorry about his affair. One wonders if you have truly forgiven him if you shrink from him as you say you do. The only healthy thing you can do is to try to forget the past and normalize your relationship with your husband. Ask God to help you develop the loving attitude you had toward him in the beginning. By so doing you can build a happy marriage again. Perhaps you would like to find an answer for yourself to a problem that you can share with others in "There's An Answer". If there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale to discuss in this column, write to them in care of Box 500, Pawling, N.Y. 12564. "Alcohol In Middle Years" Booklet Offered One doesn't have to drink to be affected by alcohol. Some 106 million Americans drink, and one of them may be someone close to you - a family member, friend, business associate, neighbor or perhaps even a mate. If he or she - like a rapidly growing number of Americans ~ has a drinking problem, one may find he needs to know how to cope with alcohol and its effects. Helpful information about this subject of increasing concern may be found in Alcohol in the Middle Years, published by Action for In dependent Maturity, a division of the American Association of Retired Persons. Featured in the booklet are a candid interview with en tertainer Dick Van Dyke about his bout with alcoholism; a survey of alcohol's physical and psychological effects; an introduction to the disturbing facts of teen-age drinking; a guide where to get help with drinking problems; and quizzes to test knowledge about alcohol and personal drinking habits. Single copies are available free from AIM, P.O. Box No. 2400, Long Beach, Calif. 90801. CONGRESSMAN HONORED Congressman John B. An derson has been selected by the board of trustees of the Americans for Constitutional Action to receive its ninth biennial Distinguished Service award. The award was based on Anderson's stand on 403 roll call votes in the House, and on his overall voting record in the sixteen years he has served in Congress. Miss J. Charlene Baker, chairman of the non partisan nation-wide political action organization, said: "The Distinguished Service award is bestowed upon members of Congress for their notable voting record, in the Congress of the United States, in support of those legislative measures which would serve to sustain strengthen and defend the spirit and principles of the Constitution of the United States as these were defined by the Founding Fathers of our Republic."
