McHENRY NEWLYWEDS-Bernard and Marlene (Dow ell) Matchen, Jr. are making their home in McHenry following a May 14 wedding at St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry. The Rev. William Schwartz officiated at the ceremony uniting in marriage the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dowell and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Matchen, Sr., all of McHenry. A Florida honeymoon trip was taken, prior to residency in McHenry. The couple are both employed locally. Do-Si-Do Diplomas Handed Out On Monday. May 23, the McHenry Bachelor and Bachelorettes held their first graduation dance. Twenty-two square dancers received their diplomas for successfully completing at least twenty lessons. The lessons consisted of learning the seventy-five basics of square dancing. They were held on Monday evenings at the Ringwood Methodist church. The newly elected officers of the club are. Tom Peters, president, McHenry; Rick Krieger, vice president. Rich­ mond; Lois Sandman, secretary, Marengo; and Amy Dysart, treasurer. Crystal Lake. Bachelor and Bachelorettes are a nationwide square and round dance club. The McHenry chapter is a new club with their first lesson held in January. Club membership is open to anyone who is at least 18 years of age or older, either single, widowed or divorced and an experienced dancer. Beginner lessons will start in September. Car Designer To Guest Speak At PWP Meeting Cry stal Lake Chapter 189 of Parents Without Partners will hdld its next meeting Friday, June 3 at 8:30 p.m. in the American Legion home in Crystal Lake. Dick Hanat, one of the designers and builders of the "Blue Flame", the world's fastest car will be the guest speaker. He will tell about the car and show a sound film. This exciting and interesting man is also involved with solar heating. Newcomers are urged to attend an orientation program which begins at 8 p.m. Activities for the first part of June include a dinner-theatre party, family picnic, smorgasbord and dance, summer party, family mini- golf night, and some coffee and discussion evenings. Those eligible for mem­ bership in Parents Without Partners are single parents, divorced, widowed, separated or unmarried Custody of the children is not a requirement for membership. Cornelia wearing a floor length, A line gown of ivory satin-backed crepe designed and made by her mother. Mrs. Robert Betts. The gown was trimmed with an ivory brocade lace on the long sleeves and bodice. For something old, the bride wore diamond earrings which belonged to the groom's grandmother and a necklace of her mother's. The Rev. Michael Tierney blessed the union in St. Mary's Catholic church Saturday, May 28, during a 3 o'clock ceremony. Musical selections included "Wedding Song", "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", and "Speak Softly Love". The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Robert Betts of Ringwood and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cornelia of Woodstock. The bridal attendants con­ sisted of maid of honor, Anita Johnson of Woodstock with bridesmaids, Debbie (Betts) Bork, the bride's sister of Chicago. Kathie (Cornelia) Huddleston. the groom's sister of Vraukegan. Kim Frindell of Park Ridee. The Plaindealer extends a "Welcome" to these newcomers and hopes the reader, as a neighbor, will do the same.) The number of additions to the younger generation has been increased by six in the lakeland Park-Lakeland Shores area recently. James Kacena is 7 years old and brings his parents, Erv and Audrey, along with him from Crystal Lake to 4721 W. Paririe avenue. Among members of the playpen set is Brian Arnold who is 14 years and who belongs to Stephen and Barbara Arnold of 5016 W. Prairie avenue. They are former Rock Island residents. Mike, Debra and Rebecca Boggs are making acquain­ tances in the neighborhood of N. Oak street at the east end of Lakeland Shores. They, along with their parents, Steven and Peggy, are living at 2014 N. Oak street. Kelly Jenkins is the same age as Rebecca Boggs, both age 3, and living at 1818 N. Oak street, so the girls' probably will have much in common as years go by. Kelly is in the care of parents Tom and Beth Jenkins and all are from Woodstock. A new couple have chosen the house at 4419 Clearview, east Lakeland Shores, as their home. Jeff and Sue Jordan moved from Mt. Prospect in April. The Schillaci family, Paul, Rita, Samatha and Cynthia, left Wonder Lake and are settling in at 3704 Garfield, Claremont Hills subdivision, north of McHenry. Town living, and Green street in particular, appealed to Tom and Nancy Krause and the home at 308 N. Green now houses them and their three children, Dale, Tomi and Brandon. Prior to the move, the family resided in Mundelein. A March move from Hoffman Estates brought Bob and Nancy Sallaz to 1907 Woodlawn Park. Eastwood Manor acquired new residents in April at 1317 Hillside with Ronald and Gudrun Schreiner and children, Christopher and Michael coming from Palatine. Harold Kuecker is from Chicago and enjoying retirement at 5509 W. Cleveland, West Shore Beach. The home at 1102 W. Northeast, Griswald Lake, met the requirements of the Biner family, Sheldon, Joyce and Brian, 21 months, formerly from Wauconda. Richard and Michele Peterson are living at 3413 Caroline, Rolling Acres, and have two children, Melissa, 20 months, and Eric. 5 months. Maria, Chris, Jeff, and Laura Finch, along with their parents, Dale and Char Finch, are becoming familiar with McHenry following a move from LaFontaine, Ind. in March. Oh No! The bride's mother chose a floor length gown of tangerine knit while Mrs. Cornelia wore a full length sleeveless dress of mint green knit. Andre's Steak House was the scene for a reception with one hundred and seventy-five guests extending best wishes to the bridal couple. A wedding trip to Wisconsin precedes residency in Woodstock. The bride graduated from McHenry Community high school in 1970 and attended McHenry County college for two years. She is employed as a dental assistant. The groom is a 1969 graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school and a 1975 graduate of Carroll college, Waukesha, Wis. He is holding a teaching position. Dr. Stanley R. Renas, Professor of Business and Management at Northeastern Illinois university, Chicago, will be the guest speaker at the Spares Sunday Evening club June 12. at 7:30 p m. Dr. Renas* Subject will be "Retirement- Relaxation, Renaissance, or 'Ripoff'?" This meeting will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran church, 2328 Central road. Glenview. Almond, Chocolate Elegance Inspired by the renowned Vienna tortes, this enticing dessert combines almonds and chocolate for exciting eating. Moist and tender, the chocolate cake layers are baked in pans coated with crisp almond slices, and then filled and topped with a luscious, coffee-flavored whipped cream. The result is deliriously irresistible. European Choco-Almond Cake 1/2 cup soft butter 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1 1/3 cups sliced natural toasted almonds 1 1/2 cups milk 2 squares unsweetened 1 teaspoon almond chocolate extract 1 3/4 cups sifted flour 2 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons instant 2 teaspoons baking coffee granules powder 1 1/2 cups whipping cream 1 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons sugar 1/4 teaspoon baking soda tablespoons sugar Butter two 9-inch round layer cake pans, using 1 table­ spoon butter for each. Sprinkle bottoms and sides of pans with 1 cup almonds. Chop remaining almonds and set aside. Melt chocolate over hot water; cool. Sift flour again with sugar, baking powder, salt and soda into a large mixing bowl; stir in wheat germ. Add remaining butter, milk and almond extract. Blend until moistened, then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add eggs and cooled chocolate; beat 2 minutes longer; stir in the 1/3 cup chopped almonds. Turn into prepared pans. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes, just until layers test done. Let stand in pans 10 minutes, then cool thoroughly. In deep bowl, crush coffee granules. Add cream and 3 tablespoons sugar; beat stiff. Place 1 cake layer, almond side up, on serving plate; spread with 2/3 of the cream. Top with second layer, almond side down.
