Way back when McHenry lost Route U.S. 12 the natives thought the town would fold up for sure. What the heck would we do with that traffic now? Had occasion to hit the holiday traffic at U.S. 12 at Orsolini's corner near Rich mond and let me tell thee it was lined up way, way back. After getting through Rich mond and up to the divided highway, there was no trouble at all. Kept going up to Turtle Lake where the Edward Blakes have a home on wheels and a pontoon boat a few steps away. Had a ride around the lake and saw boats of every description, with the exception of those roaring speed boats. There were sail boats, putt- putts, foot-paddle numbers for the younger group and designs of every kind. No traffic jams. Nobody was in a hurry. Of course, we had a cookout. A banquet was never so good. Former neighbor, Herman Kreutzer, Wally and their Fraus came a-calling next door Memorial Day to wish their brother Bill a Happy Birthday. Too bad we didn't know. Never mind that game in St. Louis. Everyplace we went after the Cubs hit first place one of those certain fans would look at us and smile. Eddie Bimbo even tried to convince/is that Gene Schaefer has switched to the North Siders. No way! His dad (Petie) would disown him. Even a Sox fan cannot deny the fact that the Cubs are playing great baseball. Their trades and dreams are looking better all the time. The foursome of Ken Ludwig, El Partenheimer, Vern Peterson and Gary Fields were seen struggling throughout the 18 holes. Don't know if they kept score, but they seemed to have a lot of fun. Fun and games it was indeed, and you needed a helmet while waking down the fairway, as golf balls were flying all over the course. Ken Ludwig was in charge of the golf, and as usual the old "coach" did a bang up job, getting everyone off the first tee.
