This past weekend meant the gathering of the clan for our family in LaPorte, Ind. There were about fifty-two folks who spent the weekend at the home of my niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ross. From this area were Laurie Hertel and her two children, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mumma and children, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hueckstaedt, Jr., and their children; Also Bud, Rusty and I. All in all there were seven teen of us. Others came from Texas, Oklahoma, and Michigan. Most of those there included my sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Russell's eight children and their families. It was the first time in several years that all eight children were able to arrange the time and transportation for the holiday weekend. TIL NEXT TIME The Village of Holiday Hills CHER I HOGLl'ND ROSEMAR Y HOLTZ 385,-3944 344-0615 North Carolina Wedding For Local Man-Bride Sunday, May 15, John Laskowski of Holiday Hills and Gwen Bibey exchanged marriage vows in the beautiful, new Yates-Thaggart Baptist church in Whispering Pine, N.C. The bride wore soft wtyte chiffon trimmed with beaded lace and matching veil. Her sister, Diane Dupree of McHenry, attended her as matron of honor. Brother Mark served as best man. Gwen's adorable nieces, Natalie and Candace, were flower girls and nephew John was the ring bearer. Serving as ushers were Jay Dupree of McHenry, and Steve Bibey, who was on leave from the Air Force in Texas. Mark and Patti Laskowski; Bob and Judy Stewich, the groom's sister; cousin Michael Janik, and friends, Steve Salter and Jimmy Harper, also made the long trip for this special occasion. A lovely cake cutting ceremony followed the service. In the evening, a dinner was held honoring the newlyweds at the Sheraton hotel in southern Pines. John and Gwen traveled to Myrtle Beach, N.C., for a few days then extended their honeymoon to Rhinelander, Wis., for a week. The gracious and charming parents of the bride and their lovely home will long be remembered by Lou and Joan, who combined the trip with their vacation plans and toured the deep South. Everyohe arrived home safely, which was an added blessing. Our commendable Police department patrolled and kept an eye on the "old homestead" in our absence. SPRINGTIME CAMPING Pam and Alan Rasmussen enjoyed their annual break from the every day grind of life in Holiday Hills by camping and sightseeing in the nor theast. The family stopped at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and toured the many at tractions there. From there they traveled to Lake Champlain in Vermont, where they camped for several days with friends from Rass's Navy days. The couple returned to spend the rest of their vacation in our own area. They enjoyed the Milwaukee zoo, Great America, and Greenfield village in Detroit, where they also visited relatives. The rolling countryside, bluffs, tall trees and the deep blue of the mighty Mississippi beckoned to the Thietje family, Roger, Linda, Karen, Brian ana Scott, for a weekend of camping, boating, swimming and hiking. The views were breathtaking as they became intimately acquainted with the Mississippi Palisades in God's country. The sight of huge barges hauling their cargo down the river as well as hand gliding with kites made their trip even more enjoyable. BACKYARD BARBECUE Kicking off the summer season, the Saunders family hosted a backyard barbecue over Memorial day weekend. Chef Roger "burned" the hamburgers and brats over the charcoal and everyone enjoyed all of the good tasting food. Those who helped celebrate were Phil, Evelyn and Flip Traskaski, Jim, Phyllis and Page Bryan, Tim, Jan, Scotty and Todd Ballowe, Jim, Joan and Jennie Downing, and Mike, Nancy, Nicole and Meryl Mineo. SPECIAL GRADUATION Creative Katie Gregg, with a little help from some trienas, made her son, Keith, and his M o n t i n i c l a s s m a t e s ' graduation a very special occasion. A party was held in their honor, and those at tending will certainly remember the day for a long time. CULTURE TOUR From the long, dark tunnel leading back in time to the golden rule of King Tut come the treasures of ancient Egypt, proudly displayed at the Field museum. TheOVi hour wait was well worth the time as artifacts from ages gone by were viewed by Linda and Karen Thietje and Roger's mom who was visiting from Nebraska. The ancient Workmenship beautifully and ornately hand crafted was a sight to behold. During the long wait, Linda and family toured the Shedd aquarium and the Adler planetarium. Returning to Holiday Hills tired and full of knowledge, the family agrees it was a day to remember. ALIENS LANDED Up, up and away over the beautiful Bull Valley coun tryside was . what the balloonists had in mind. But, without the strong wind necessary for such a flight, they were forced to land, and so the village was treated to the unusual and beautiful sight of the colorful balloons landing in our own backyards. Kids and parents alike watched as the balloonists expertly avoided obstacles and made perfect landings in Holiday Hills. The balloons were neatly folded and tucked away for the next time. For a few fleeting moment,s we were all taken up in the excitement and thrilling ad venture of hot air ballooning. BIRTHDAY BOUQUETS Celebrating their own special days in the week to come are Tim Cornwell and Danielle Hill June 8, Jimmy Harper and Ralph Robinson on the twelfth, Lauri Johnson and Kiki Hughes on the thirteenth, and the fourteenth is a special day for Cathy Beltz. ANNIVERSARY ROSES ...to Marty and Diane Lewandowski June 8, Clarence and Inez Young June 9, June 13 is celebrated by Jim and Lynn Childs, and June 14 is the happy wedding date of Dale and Gloria Gabriel. FUTURE COPS Congratulations are in order for Jerry Bowers, Jim Ladd, and Ken Olson who recently completed the MCESDA auxiliary police training course. Here's hoping they finish the remaining 150 hours of training so that they can join our Holiday Hills Police department. Hang in there, Guys!
