The members and their families gathered at the Ringwood school at 1:30 where Lee Tomlinson conducted a car safety check. The cars were examined according to equipment, performance and preparedness. Certificates marked with the standards each car possessed were presented to each driver. Nine cars were examined and all received a safety award. A car caravan then traveled to the homes of John and Bob Doessel, Tim Watkins, Sandy and George Madden and Kathy Eppers. At each place the members displayed their projects, discussed the progress they were making, problems they had experienced and what they still hoped to accomplish before fair time. Cattle judging took place at Northern Pump farm in Lost Valley Mr Eppers passed out IBM rating cards, explained their use in professional show classing and discussed desirable standard features of judging meat bred steers. Those present then placed a pen of four bulls in order and a pen of four yearling heifers. It was a highlight of the day. Next we "played baseball on the Frank Rudolph Jr. ballfield and enjoyed a potluck supper at the Ringwood Methodist church. It was a fun day. Father Hanner resided McHenry for several years in before moving to Florida last year). Sunday night while I talked on the phone there came a hurried rap on our door. Rose went and I heard Frank Ogilvie say, "Katherine has fallen. Can you give us some help?" Katherine is Mrs. Ogilvie. She is in her early 80 s and a fall on the walk is a bad thing. She was lying fifteen steps from my front door. I got off the phone and brought a blanket, to which I added a couple of small pillows for some additional comfort. One of the first rules of this place is when anyone has fallen-let them lie until one of the nurses has seen them. Mrs. Ogilvie covered up on a warm sidewalk with a couple of pillows and her husband standing by gave us time to call our own nursi«g home and report the accident. In five minutes or less the nurse was there. She decided this was a time for hospital care and called another nurse to get the records prepared to go with Mrs. Ogilvie. This material shows on charts they keep on all of us. The Health center can tell in a few seconds what the medicaiton of any Sun Coast manor resident is. SEC TION 2-PAUfc.3'FLAI.>UtALtK- FRIDAY. JUNE 10. 1977 Mrs Ogilvie was suffering pain in her right hip and the back of her head. There was a huge bump on her head where she had hit the sidewalk so that her head ached. The nurses supervised the calling of an ambulance. It reminded me of our own McHenry Rescue squad, when Mr. Eugene L. Woods was saved after a heart attack by our own McHenry Rescue squad, police, and Stephan Woo, who came and called me while I walked on the island nearby to aid Woods who was feeling the results of a heart attack while fishing. The ambulance soon arrived and two very young men promptly showed they had had training and knew exactly what to do. They stopped about one- half block from where we were. The leader examined Mrs. Ogilvie and with his assistant's help and the help of Miss Hannah Rinck, the nurse, they soon had Mrs. Ogilvie's hip in a traction splint. He explained this would hurt a bit but would soon bring greater comfort and not damage the hip further in moving here. The three of them lifted her to an ambualnce cart lowered so the lift would be small, extended her cart to full height, rolled it to the am bulance where it automatically folded up as they put it in the RELAX IN STYLE! Within thirty minutes from her fall Mrs. Ogilvie was in the hospital, and that isn't all. Her records of medical care from our Health center were along with her I cannot praise our nurisng corps enough, nor our front office which p/omptly went into "high"' gear, nor the very young men. highly trained, who knew exactly what to do. If it is at all possible do not move an injured person till trained help arrives. You run a grave chance of aggravating the injury by unskillful han dling. She even had a bag of ice resting under her bad head bump to reduce the swelling and make her more com fortable. You can't beat it folks. We have people who know what to do All this was four days ago. The doctors operated on the hip and put in a ball, so soon the patient will be back in ouf health center to recuperate and come home. It all makes you feel safer Now back in McHenry support that McHenry Rescue squad You may be doing yourself a favor-you never know, do you. , for whom the ambulance wails*' All this just made me glad that I was somewhere where people are trained to look out for old jokers like us who used to look out for young jokers like some of you. On a different subject. St. Petes is the Florida Professional Minor league basebaH team We've been to six games this spring. Some times they play like pros and then again, they spray the ball all over the yard. No one has thrown a ball into the stands yet. The umpires are not like big league umps who give the call as the play is made These boys wait a second or two, think it over and then give the call. In the big leagues they are all pretty professional. I hope Jim Erickson gets a bus full of Whispering Oakers to go to the ball park this summer They buy back the balls that are hit into the stands for a ticket to another game. St. Petes is the place in all Florida I like best. I have lived in Miami. Pen- sacola, and now the Sun Coast. I'll take it any time Hose and I had a mess of corn out of our own garden yesterday. We stayed home from the dining room to fix lunch. It's a fact.
