PAGE 12 - PLA1NDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15. 1977 This picture was taken just a year ago. It was a perfect afternoon for a garden wedding reception. Joan and Kenny were so much in love. Now, this morning, a letter came in the mail from Joan telling us that she is coming home. She's think ing about divorce -- that the beautiful dream that she and Kenny shared has turned into a nightmare. Naturally, her father and I will welcome her. This is her home and always will be. But this is a problem that we shall not try to solve by ourselves. We will turn, as we know Joan will, to our church, and to the very minister who both baptized and married her. Maybe all of us, working together, will find a way through God's Will and His Word. The Church comes very close in times of stress. Remember that CopyngM 1977 Keister AcJvertising Service. Strasburg. Current weekly maximum benefits are $110 and $132, respectively. Tape recorder in hand, Charles Morrissey calls on the most interesting people he can find. He wants to catch every word they say. If they ramble, he's delighted. He's searching for behind-the-scenes facts that make events. As an oral historian, Morrissey is collecting material for future historians. "When people ramble in their talking, giving exceptional little details, I love it. Then elements that shape final ac tions come to light!"; <- The telephone today takes the place of letter writing in so , many instances that there is no record for authors to look at when they want to preserve history. So oral historians tape record eye-witness recollec tions of local, national and even international events. For example, Tulane university in New Orleans has an oral history of jazz, Studs Terkel's book, "Hard Times", developed from oral history of the depression. An "adjunct professor of history at the University of Vermont, Morrissey is a for mer president of the 1,500- member Oral History association, founded ten years ago. He has been pursuing his interest for fourteen of his forty-two years. "It's almost as if some people are bom to be in a certain place at a certain moment," he says. "There's no need to have that person's valuable outlook lost for historical records." Charles Morrissey, who is currently interviewing former congressmen, is impressed with the many honest, hard working men and women in politics. "It may seem that I'm preaching," he says, "but most of them really have a heart and care very deeply about our country and its people."
