I'm a high school senior and very much in love with a guy. We plan to marry as soon as we are both out of school. We've been going together for four years, and all my friends know we are serious But not long ago I found one of my best friends was trying to convince my boy friend to start going out with her. He told her no several times, but she kept at him. If that wasn't bad enough, I found out another close friend was backing her and giving her help. I feel so bad inside. I feel as if I never want to see them again. I don't understand how they could do this. What is the Christian way to handle this? Please help me. I've never spilled my guts to anyone before; you are the first. A. The first thing is to be glad the young man is loyal to you and hag not fallen for the at tempts of your so-called girl friends. Obviously you've got yourself a good boy. Hang on to him Don't lose your good spirit because that could change you, and he might not like a changed "you" so much. In the nicest way possible tell your girl friends to lay off. Tell them you still want to he friends but they have to play straight with you. If they do respond to this forthright and honest ap^ proach, don't hate them or resent them. Just get yourself some other girl friends. You will become a bigger and more lovable young woman and your boy friend will see a wonderful new person in you. Solving a problem through love is the right way to handle anything. We have a booklet, What To Do When, which has helped others with questions such as yours, and a copy of it is on its way to you. Anyone reading this column who wishes a free copy may write for one. Address your request to Dr. and Mrs. Peale, Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564. Can God Forgive Their Daughter? Q. My 21-year-old daughter is thinking of marriage to a man who is 27 years her senior They've been living together for over a year now. This has been very sad for me to think of daily. I pray that my girl will see how wrong this is and really ask God's forgiveness. She has also had an abortion. I know God will take her back if she wants it. Do you think so too? A. God will always take anyone back no matter what has been done, however sinful or unwise. God- continues to love any individual, hoping always that such a person will return to his senses, depart from evil and do good. Actually your daughter, in our judgment, is not only doing wrong but hurting herself. But she will have to find this out for herself, perhaps the hard way. Just keep praying for her, keep loving her, keep on believing in her. By so doing you will release creative forces to surround her. Let us hope she will soon realize there is a higher and better plan for her and will take the first step toward this new life. Husband Will Have Nothing To Do With Her Q. I am trying to salvage my marriage. It is the second for us both. His first ended in divorce; mine when my husband passed away after twenty-six years of caring for each other. Three years ago my present husband began phoning and trying to bring me out of my shell. He made me care about myself once again. This man who taught me that sex at 50 can be as beautiful and fulfilling as it should have been before, this same man who gave me hope again and reason for living, began to change in a way that I couldn't believe. He asked me to sleep elsewhere, began to be critical, won't allow me to get the least affectionate, no words of endearment at any time. So what do I do? I find myself crawling back into my old shell more each day. A. You seem to have the "shell" psychology-you crawl out of shells and back ihto shells. Why not drop that shell figure and just be your own normal self? It could be possible that you are over- possessing your man. This could account for his effort to reject you. Bypass the affection factor and just treat him kindly and with respect, without en dearments. You may, by this process, achieve a better balance in your relationship And get outside the home and into other interests. Take your husband along if you can. Do things together. (Perhaps you.would like to find an answer for yourself to a problem that you can cV,are with others in Thert a An Answer!
