CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY-The children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sweeney, Sr. hosted a party Sunday, June 12, in honor of their parents thirty-fifth wedding anniversary. A Mass of Thanksgiving was offered at St. Patrick's Catholic church at 11 a.m. with a daughter of the couple. Colleen Sweeney, as reader. Approximately fifty guests gathered to congratulate the Sweeneys' and included their six children, Frank, Jr.; Mrs. Kurt (Cristine) Thomas; Mrs. George (Alicia) Gutzman; Mary Therese; Colleen and Patrick, all of McHenry. There is one grandchild. Amy Lynn Sweeney. Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney were married June 13, 1942 in Chicago at St. Benedict's Catholic church. They have been residents of McHenry for the past 23 years, formerly from Chicago. Flag Day Speaker At Local Walk-In Center June 14 was a very important day, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Old Glory. Senior Citizens at the McHenry Walk-In center heard a flag expert speak on his favorite subject. Joe White of McHenry told the history of the flag, the meaning of the stars and stripes bringing the story up to date with its fifty stars. White demonstrated the proper presentation, display at all times and with the aid of Ed Moshiek showed the proper folding of a flag. The proper way to dispose of an old flag was discussed. White said that any military organization wiil do the job by burning with the proper ceremony. "There is not enough good old fashioned caring about our nation's symbol today. Every American must regain his pride in being an American and act accordingly," White declared. Sixty-five celebrants enjoyed the May birthday party and potluck luncheon held at the McHenry Walk-In center and they are expecting a larger crowd for the June 27 party honoring those who were born in June. Set July 9 For Alumni Dinner-Dance Plans for the annual dinner dance for the alumni of Rich mond-Burton Community higji school have been completed according to Loren Miller, president of the alumni association. The date is set for July 9 and will be held at An dre's Steak House in Rich mond. The get acquainted hour will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 and the dance at' 9 p.m. Gag gifts will be part of the program. Dancing music will be provided by a local band. All RBCHS alumni and their guests as well as present and. former RBCHS teachers are invited to attend. Tickets may be obtained from Loren Miller at 678-6691.
