Mr. Lockerbie then read a poem, which he dedicated to his wife, entitled "What is Hap piness". It had originally ap peared on the Father's day card he received from her. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and ap proved and the treasurer's report was read and approved andfiled fen* audit. It was announced that there are just a couple of reser vations available for the bus- luncheon-race track trip to Arlington Park Wednesday, July 6. Those interested should contact Mrs. Louise Giel at once. The bus will leave from the Savings & Loan parking lot. Members were urged to sign the petition to have the amount of the Homestead Exemption act increased from $1,500 to $3,000. This would mean quite a savings in the tax bill for the senior citizens. Social chairlady, Anne Reh- finger. recognized the ladies for their cooperation in supplying cakes for the refreshment period, and asked that they volunteer to bring cakes so that the committee will not have to spend so much time phoning for the cake donations. The refreshment and social hour is an important part of each meeting, as it enables the members to become - better acquainted with each other, and with a membership of approximately seven hundred members, it takes, quite a while to get to know many of them. Lyda Radjsch, historian and publicity chkirlady, gave her report, and then clarified a misunderstanding. As the club championship kitchen band was disbanded last October by mutual agreement, and while the members meet several times a year for get-togethers, they definitely have no plans for reactivating the band. However, members interested in a rhythm or musical group can contact Mrs. Signa Wright. John Doerr advised that the time of departure for the Lake Geneva boat trip and luncheon at the Play Boy club has been changed. The bus will leave the McHenry State bank at 8:45 *a.m. instead of 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. Reser vations are limited. Mr. Doerr has scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 19, for the bus- luncheon-matinee trip to see "The Music Man" at Drury Lane North. Members are urged to make reservations promptly with Mrs. Giel, as eighty has been set as the limit. Mr. Doerr will try to arrange for a bus trip to see the Cubs play in September, and will have more information on this - at the next meeting. * He is also considering a trip to the Amana Colonies in Amana, Iowa, in September, if there is enough interest in such a trip. Everyone who was on the Mackinac Island trip is still talking about the wonderful time everyone had, and John Doerr shared some to the highlights and experiences of the trip with the membership. It is too bad that everyone didn't have the pleasure of this trip and, of course, "Grand Hotel" was super-special. Mrs. Clara Knetzer, loop bus trip chairlady, advised that the July 13 trip is filled. She is also taking reservations for the loop bus Aug. 10. These loop bus trips are very inexpensive and very convenient, as the bus leaves the McHenry State bank at 8:45 a.m. and takes - one direct to Marshall Fields. The pick-up is at Fields for the return trip home. Alf Heggeland advises that the art classes are filled to capacity; however, he has a waiting list so if anyone is in terested in getting into an art class get on his waiting list. Some of the pupils who started with him in 1909 are still at tending his advanced classes. When the club has the Art Exhibit program, it is amazing to see what beautiful work these artists are doing. Mayor Joseph Stanek issued an invitation to the Senior Citizens to attend the picnic at Petersen park July 4. This is a beautiful park, close to home, and an ideal place to spend the Fourth. Volunteers are needed to help at the club's annual club picnic at Johnsburg Community grounds Saturday, July 16. Contact Henry Rahn or Ralph Lockerbie. Bring lunch, folding table and chairs, the club will furnish the liquid refresh- metns, and provide the games. Ms. Bertha Quinn introduced Miss Ethels Raue of Crystal Lake, a handwriting analyst who gave a most interesting program. Mrs. Arlette Reitsel gave t very interesting talk on "Fish", and it is the intention of the club to lend its support to this committee meeting ] to the holdiay. The next meeting of the did) will be Monday, July 11 at 7:80 p.m. at East campus cafeteria, when ihe program will be given by the "Happy Times Four", a quartet.
