Although the type of disor­ ders grouped under the wide category of "personality disorders," often comes to the attention of various professional health care agencies, the disorder is seldom treated with a high degree of success. The sociopathic, psychopathic, and antisocial personality disor­ dered people cannot be said to have an emotional disorder. Rather, due to faulty parenting, they have failed to develop a capacity for affectionate relationships with others or an appreciation of the rights of others. The anti-social personality is primarily concerned with himself and his own gains to thes exclusion of the feelings of the rest of society. Failing to recognize the real meaning of right and wrong, the person may become involved in delinquent or criminal ac­ tivities. More often, howeyer, the antisocial personality will be a very charming, likable person who may be extremely successful in perfectly legitimate ventures. Beneath the charming exterior, which is usually a learned behavior to help the person get what he wants, there is Ititle depth and no real concern or love for the other person. The reason why this type of disorder is resistent to treat­ ment should be obvious: the person with this personality disorder does not really believe there is anything wrong with him. Usually the life style has been successful and rewarding in many ways and there is no motivation to change. Besides a lack of motivation the person with a personality disorder usually does not have the capacity to undergo any real basic changes because his "personality" as such has already been formed. The most that can be hoped for in most instances is to convince the person that it would be in his McHenry County college will hold an all-day workshop designed for women either newly enrolled in, or thinking about returning to school. The workshop will be held in the student lounge of the Main Hall building Saturday, Aug. 6. The purpose of the workshop, sponsored by the Office Of Student Services, and coor­ dinated by MCC counselor Dotti Hovan, is to provide women who are considering becoming students with support, en­ couragement, assistance, in­ formation and an opportunity to talk about their concerns and have their questions about MCC answered. The workshop, through a combination of films, peer-led discussion groups, and faculty and staff participation, will focus on both the emotional and Sractical needs and problems tat arise when a woman is trying to make the back-to- school decision.
