How did Whispering Oaks get its name? It got it from beautiful Oak trees like the one L.W. McGraw is crouching next to. The tape measure reveals that the tree is 13-feet, 5-inches around at its base, believed to be a record for this area. It is estimated that the tree is between 240 and 250 years old. McGraw, who Uves at 908 WUtshire drive in Whispering Oaks, reported that the tree, which is located in his backyard, was damaged several years ago, but the land developers fed it intensely. The developers were concerned about the tree, and didn't want it to die because it is symbolic of the entire Whispering Oaks area. In height, the tree reaches between 80 and 90 feet, and has an impressive span, as it shades the entire area.
