The fourth game? The finale to the big day of softball will feature a contest between the managers and coaches of the Pigtail league teams. Umpiring the^ame will be the girls who played in the league throughout the season. One report has it that the game between the coaches and managers will feature poor pitching, mediocre hitting, and more errors than the girls make in an entire season. Come by and join the Tun. On the serious side, the Junior division all-star game will begin at 10 a.m, with the Senior division playing at noon, and the Ponytail division starting at 2 p.m. The coaches will take the field at 4 p.m. Another important item is that the Ponytail division all- star team played in a tour nament this past weekend against teams from other cities in the area. It was the same type tourney which the Senior division girls won a couple of weeks ago. " As the season ends, one of the biggest mysteries centers around the girls who play for Adams Radiator in the Ponytail division. Girls, where were you earlier in the season? After dropping its first eight games, the team suddenly came alive, winning three of its next four contests, including a 28-6 drubbing of Dan's Food Mart, which is assured of at least a tie for first place in the league standings. The Food Mart assured itself of a share of the league crown by defeating Adams En terprises 21-19, and toppling McHenry State Bank 24-8. In the victory over the State Bank, Eenae DeRosier hit a home run for the Food Mart. McHenry State Bank was guilty of a couple of baserunning errors in the contest, with Tina Harwood out trying to stretch a triple into a home run, and Linda Aim being called out at second base after rounding it too far after hitting a double. Dan's Food Mart completed its season with a 0-3 record. As of this writing, McHenry Trophy had a 7-3 mark, with two games to play. Should the Trophy have won both of those games, there would be league co-champions, certainly fitting in a season when all teams in the league were of comparable strength. The Junior and Senior divisions have both completed their seasons, with an un disputed champion being crowned in each league. In the Senior division, McHenry Recreation claimed the title with a 10-2 mark, two games in front of Otto's Girls. Arizona Sun defeated State Farm Insurance in a 25-24 slugfest to claim third place, /while Jim's Auto Body tipped the Fashion Shoppe 8-6. In the Junior division, un defeated league champion, Beauty Box, completed its twelve game season a while back, but in play last week, there was the inevitable tie game which fouls up standings sheets which do not provide a column for games in which there is no winner. The 17-all tie was played by Riverside S.A.C. and Buss Ford. Ironically, the tie assured S.A.C. of second place in the standings, a narrow one- half game in front of both Globe Sales and the Toddler Shop. The Toddler Shop ended its season with a win, 29-15 over S.A.C., with outfielder Noel Mercure and catcher Sandy Bogacz excelling for the win ners. One final reminder that the all-star games will be played Saturday, Aug. 6, at Petersen park, with the Junior division game kicking off the day of fun at 10 a.m. STANDINGS (Final order of finish) Junior division W L Pet Beauty Box 12 0 1000 Toddler Shop $ 7 417 Buss Ford (T) 2 9 182 (Last week's scores) Toddler Shop 29, SAC 15 SAC 17, Buss 17 (Tie) Senior division W L Pet. That is what is known as defacing property. - If Larry Lund isn't the guilty one, he knows who plastered that sign on our bumper. Such a revoltin' develop ment! Since Dick Wimmer has heard from so many precincts about that hat mentioned in this column, he presented me with a classy number in front of an audience at Bimbo's That cheery gal, Mrs. John Coughlin, thinks I should wear that hat next St. Patrick's Day. With an orange band? No way. Some big Irishman might decide to knock it off my noggin' and take my head with it. s Forest fires are horrible. Those areas need a giant Sprinkler system. Some athletes sign a 3-year contract, have one good year and want to renegotiate UP. It will be headline news when one of the boys has a poor year and demands that his contract be renegotiated DOWN. Our White Sox have become so accustomed to hitting the ball over the fence that the sacrifice bunt seems to be forgotten. After a few more double plays on that hit away stuff and somebody may recall the strategy of moving a player into scoring position. One time in the long ago, Babe Ruth hit a home run when he had the sign to bunt. Manager Miller Huggins promptly fined the great Bambino five hundred dollars. Sympathy is admirable. Self sympathy (pity) is not healthy. It is so easy to criticize others-and so hard to take if you are on the receiving end. So-called constructive criticism needs a new name. You have to go to a wake or a funeral to meet friends you haven't seen in a long time. Our search and find section in this column has been batting a thousand. No sooner had the last issue come out asking for in formation on the Michael Justen house than Mrs. Louis (Lillian) Stoffel phoned with full information. That beautiful, big house at Elm and Park Streets was built in the year 1890. Now hear this! The 10-room house was built for the stupendous sum of $3,500.00. Yep. Thirty-five hundred. r Come what may, Cub fans will never forget that 16 to 15 win over Cincinnati last Thursday. The next day they lost a 1-0 game to Atlanta. Who says pitching isn't the name of the game? McHenry Country Club now has pictures of all past presidents of the club with the exception of Mr. King. Somewhere, somebody must have a picture of Mr. King in one of their scrapbooks. , Help! Our search and find record is at stake.
