The area representatives were Mark A. Taberoachi and Craig R. Leich of Sunrise Ridge, and Dee D. Hodeson, who is the county coordinator. The seminar was desigend to give instruction to the coor dinator in areas including the Emergency Broadcast system, hazardous materials, and the Emergency Operations Simulation program. The seminar IB a state- sponsored program where many phases of civil preparedness affecting the local emergency services coordinator are covered. In structors at this seminar are members of the Illinois Emergency . Services and Disaster agency, plus the project coordinator of the Illinois Eastern Community College EOS program, a federal representative from DCPA Region Four, the vice chairman of the Illinois Emerncy Communications committee, and the operations manager of O H. Materials, Incorporated, in Findlay, Ohio. The results of the seminar should lead to more effective coordination of all involved governmental and non governmental agencies in times of disaster, for the benefit of the people in the local community. E. Erie Jones, the em services director for the State of Illinois, stated that "Civil preparedness is not a separate function set apart from the normal responsibilities of government. On the contrary, civil preparedness operations occur whenever a local government responds to any extraordinary emergency such as a tornado, forest fire, hurricane, earthquake, flood or other natural disaster ; a major explosion or accident, or the release of radioactive mate1*?*!* or toxic chemicals; or an unusual peacetime emergency. . , "Local governmental forces such as fire and police, do provide the core, but many non governmental forces and groups must also be involved, , and the operations of all these groups must be coordinated effectively by the emergency services coordinator. This seminar will give them the training needed to do this." By the time the aver age man learns the value of study, he has lost his eyesight.
