Miriani said this past week. The most common reason for an undelivered check, ac cording to^ the IRS is that- the taxpayer has moved and left no forwarding address with the U.S. Postal Service. Because refund delays can also be caused by lost or stolen checks, the IRS urges taxpayers who feel this might be the case get in touch with their local IRS office as soon as possible so that the IRS can put tracers on the missing checks, -v Some refunds may have been delayed because of errors or omissions on_ tax returns Taxpayers notified by the IRS of such problems should follow the instructions received order to speed up issuance df their checks. „ The IRS stresses that in all refund inquiries, a taxpayer should provide the name aiid address as it appears on the return, the actual name and address if different, the social security numbers, and the type of form filed. DIVOT DOLLS V M.C.C. It was bound to happen. Ladies day Tuesday at McHenry Country club was a near wash-out as the rains came down soaking the gals and sending many of them back to the clubhouse. To quote one of the ladies, it was a tough day tgolfing-wise) and most of them were just glad they survived and tomorrow (or next week) is a new, day. However, there were a number of sturdy souls who finished the eighteen holes in the non discriminating Grandmothers and Non-Grandmothers one day event. Low net in Class A was shot by Floss O'Connell who had a 69 while in Class B it was Dot Freund with a 76 and in Class C it was Mary Wakitsch with 72. Joan Buss had low puts of 28 in Class A, Mabel Smith in Class B had 29 and Gladys AVarfield in Class C had 28. Next week, the 9th, will find the ladies having'another fun event, a Tennessee Dog Fight. The week following will find the gals back to serious golf when the first round of Club cham pionship play begins. The three-week event will have accumulative scoring and will produce both low gross and low net winners in ea^i class as well as the club champ. In the meantime, a con tingency from McHenry has travelled to Carriage Green in Darien, 111., to participate in the 17th annual Northern Illinois Women's Golf association tournament which is being played thfti 5th and 6th. Good luck wishes go to all the ladies who will be representing McHenry. Here's hoping they come home with many of the trophies! 'Til next time, ' Happy Golfing! BUMPER STICKERS EXERCISE S0MI RETIREES GET IS TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY Health Tip (From the American Medical Association) Fishing Safety Fishing is good therapy - both physical and emotional. The American Medical association points out that the millions of Americans who head for the lakes and streams across the nation each fishing season don't need a doctor to tell them that fishing is a good sport. They likely have seen their doctor sitting in the next boat with a line in the water. Fishing can be elaborate, complete with a trip to the seashore and renting deep-sea boats and equipment. Or it can be the cane pole and worms affair on the banks of a neigh borhood creek. Either way it gets us out in the fresh air and sunshine, gets our minds off the cares of the day. Unless you are the vigorous type who wades through racing rapids or rows hard for miles, fishing is only mild exercise, but still is good for the body and spirit, Fishing also is a relatively safe sport. But it does have some built-in hazards. Most of them can be avoided. The most common fishing accident is catching a barbed hook in the flesh, usually a finger or hand, but sometimes a leg or other part of the body. Lures and hooks left un protected on a dock or on the bottom of a boat cause many of these accidents. • The* wise fisherman guards against hook accidents by shielding the hook. One simple way is to stick a small cork over the barb. Lures should be stored in the tackle box until needed, and returned promptly to the box when removed from the leader. The band of your favorite fishing hat is, of course, a reasonably safe place to keep lures you intend to use later in the day. Fly or bait casters are responsible for many hook accidents to their fellow fisherman. Train yourself to look before each cast to make certain no one is in the way. This will also save lures from JUST ARRIVED AND DOfoPT KNOW WHICH WAY T^TURN? In removing a hook from the fish, hold the fish firmly under the gills, so that its head can't flop-or wiggle. A freshly caught fish is slippery and hard to hold. Get a firm grip before dislodging the hook. If, despite precautions, a hook becomes embedded in your hand or finger, don't try to pull it out. Your physician will snip off the shank and push it through, thus causing less further damage to torn flesh. The doctor will also, if necessary, administer an tibiotics and tetanus toxoid.
