ROSEMARY HOLTZ 344-0615 Families Enjoy Vacation Plans Featuring R & R The time for rest and relaxation was finally at hand for several Holiday Hills families. The Nothnagels - Steve, Lisa, Valerie and Stgyie enjoyed the scenic beauty of "The Land of the Ozarks," as they made Branson, Mo., their vacation headquarters. The family enjoyed swimming, boating, and fishing, which, with a bit of luck and a few hungry fish piovided'the Nothnagels with a pan full of the best kind of fish, the kind you catch yourself. Also on the vacation trail were the Saunders as Roger combined a week of business with pleasure. Bev, Laura and Jill were left to visit Bev's parents in upstate New York. The cool Catskills were a pleasant change from the heat that was left behind in Illinois. The girls were treated to a grand tour of the small newspaper shop where Grandpa Emerson works and then off to a friend's farm. Roger joined the family and it was off to Maine for ten days of building concrete walls, carrying lumber and pounding hundreds of nails, discovering that Jill's talent lays with the golden hammer. Finding that* some things take longer than planned, the family left the retirement cabin of Roger's parents with the floor still unfinished, ho walls and an uncluttered view of tree tops for want of a roof, with the promise of next year just around the corner. It wasn't all work and no play as the Saunders found time for swimming every day and' taking in the beautiful view of the mountains surrounding the area. Back to historic Boston for the final farewell to the east coast. Although plans for vacation next year are being discussed, the whole family admitted that after camping and the rigors of outdoor living, home and a comfortable bed felt terrific. Fishermen of the world, eat your hearts out-we have in our midst a champion angler in the person of one Tom Mahon. His skill with rod and reel netted him first prize for his 64 pound, 24 inch long walleyed in the cool clear waters of Eagle river. Tom and his family, Sandy, Sue, Barb and Paul spent their vacation swimming, boating, horseback riding and mini- bicycling through the crisp Wisconsin landscape. The luck of this fisherman brought him as his reward, a sorely needed minnow basket. The only unlucky one in this fish story was the fish and he will soon be gracing the family's dinner table. ^ The last two weeks of July were not only busy but memorable ones for Diana Thomas, as she and her grandma, aunt and uncle had ringside seats to the greatest show on earth-Bozo's Circus. Diana rode the train all the way to Park Ridge where grandma was waiting at the station. Feasting on a homemade pizza that Diana helped prepare was a very special treat indeed for her grandpa Tex of DesPlaines. Diana was also an entrant in the Kiwanis' Little Miss Peanut contest. Although she didn't win the coveted title, she d& receive a doll for her en thusiasm and participation and she's still number one with mom and dad. FATCHANCE "Gee, you all look so much slimmer in person". These famous first words came from the lips of Phil Donahue as he waltzed into the studio. Those who came to hear them were Holiday Hills residents, Judy Proffitt. Kathy Schwartz, Dolly Thomas and Judy Vitm. The ladies were involved in a discussion by two doctors concerning the new "Last Chance Diet". It made such an impression on our small group that after the show the girls enjoyed a delicious Japanese lunch at an authentic Japanese restaurant. SUBWAY SERIES In the continuing battle between rival teams, the Cubs made it two in a row over the Sox. The Cubs second heady victory was a rousing 6-1 defeat, the Sox's only glimmer of success was a smashing line- drive homer. But the Sox finally got their just desserts when they won in a 13-12 clif- fhanger. not soon to be forgotten. The Sox are now looking for their next meeting and sweet revenge Noting that quality is far better than quantity the un defeated Reds added yet another victory by their grand victory over the hapless "A's". Four highly skilled players romped handily to a stunning victory by the score 22-8. The A's had the advantage of having seven team players but the momentum of the Reds was too overpowering. In yet another contest the aptly named Fun- Seekers were routed by the Diamond Heads - the final' score 13-14. CONDOLENCES We extend our deepest sympathy to Dee Wegener to her family on the loss of her father. Alan Carlson. May the Lord comfort them in their time of sorrow.
