Is the employer of this establishment required to pay Elme-and-one-half for over- fibe? From my first week to the present, I have worked from 49 hours a week to 61 Hours. 'rA. If your employer is Covered ^by the Illinois Minimum Wage law-if he Employs four or more workers Exclusive of his immediate family-then you should be receiving time-and-one-half overtime pay after working 40 fours in a week. There is an exception to this law for mechanics who work at retail automobile or truck dealer ships-overtime pay for this type of worker is not required by law. Since you state that you are employed at a service station, and as long as your employer meets the coverage requirement, overtime should b$ paid to you. The Illinois Department of Labor, Labor. Law Enforcement division enforces the Illinois Minimum Wage law and may be able to help you in this matter. They ean be contacted by writing tfcem at 910 S. Michigan avenue, 18th floor, Chicago, 111., 60806. :Q. Recently, my husband was injured while working on the jbb. He fractured some ribs and also fractured his wrist. Work man's Compensation has paid all medical bills and paid wages to him while he was unable to work. I would like to know if we are to expect some sort of settlement for these injuries, or are his lost wages all he will receive? 'A. Your husband may be entitled to a settlement for his injuries obtained on his job. After a person is injured, he has three years in which to file a claim under Workman's Compensation for a settlement, The amount of the settlement is determined by several factors, and it is advisable to have an attorney help you in filing the claim. The Illinois Industrial Commission administers the Workman's -Compensation program and can be reached at 160 North LaSalle street, Chicago, 111., 60601. Or, you can C$11 them, toll-free, at 800-972- 4604.
