The Warrior victory parade was led by lettermen Tom Pepping, Tim Byers, Bob Golf Lunkenheimer, and Pat Becker, who each shot a score that was lower than Grant's lowest score. Pepping, Byers, and Lunkenheimer each shot a score of 40 for nine holes, while Becker carded a 42. No Grant golfers were close. Head coach Charles Cuda was pleased with the season opening effort. "It was a very tough course, and we played very good for this early in the season," he noted. Tuesday's match kicked off a busy week of action for the golfers. The Warriors were scheduled to play a match at Antioch Thursday. McHenry will open its home season Monday afternoon with a match against both Prospect and Elgin Larkin high schools. Tuesday, Sept. 13, McHenry will face Marian Central in a match which was originally scheduled to be played last week. Both McHenry and Marian play their home matches at McHenry Country club. Mark Rogers The McHenry Hornets of the Junior Football league helped turn Mark Rogers' interest toward the gridiron game, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome ftogers is now a wingback on the Warrior varsity squad. For Mark, wingback is a new position. He played defensive back last season, and is happy with the switch to offense, saying that he feels more in the game playing offense. Besides football, he has also played baseball for the past three years at McHenry high school, and plays guitar "just for fun." It was Mark who snared a 29-yard pass for the Black team's only touchdown in last week's 'Soap' Bowl. The Rogers family could almost make their own football team. Counting "ma and pa", there are a total of nine in the Rogers household. Jim Buenzli A lifetime resident of McHenry, Jim Buenzli is one of' several letter winners returning to the '77 McHenry varsity golf team. , » Jim, who has a personal best score of 68 for an eighteen* hole round of golf, says he got interested in the game " through an older brother who played the game. He hM g: been golfing since he was ten-years-old, and believes tMs :£ season could be one of the best ever for the McHenry golf $ team. Besides hitting the little white ball around, Jim enjoys £ bowling, and finds a link between the two sports in the ;j>; arm action required and the follow-through. i|: The son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Buenzli finds that the :j:|: toughest part of golf is chipping and putting. He says that >:• besides working on the "short" game, he tries to get to a :|:j; driving range as much as possible. Following graduation next May, Jim hopes to attend g college, although which university and what he will study & is unknown at this time. Dave Pliner :|i; One of the toughest of all football positions to play is tight end. One of the candidates for the tight end spot on McHenry's varsity is Dave Pliner, 6-5, 185-pound son of & Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pliner. This is Dave's fourth year of football at MCHS, and he has also played two years of basketball. Speaking of the tight end position, he says that the toughest aspect is blocking, noting that some types of blocks a tight end is required to make are difficult. Besides playing football and basketball, Dave enjoys >:• doing a little hunting, and plans on attending a college in Illinois next fall. He expects to work with his father in his parent's job $ field this coming summer, and will study some form of business (accounting, management, etc.) at the college he & chooses to attend. xk : T- rj f i f teitr, Local Youths Play Big Part In Marian Victory l 8 >>: Three local youths led a parade of Marian runners across the finish line Tuesday, as the Hurricane cross country team won its opening meet of the season, toppling Jacobs 19- 42.
