My husband and I went out of a church that slandered our daughter's reputation after she was a victim of assault with • dangerous weapon with intent to rape. That is how the state charged her attacker. He pled guilty on lesser charges of assault with a gun and is on five years' probation. We must be stupid as we feel no shame or humiliation. We thank God, who protected her from harm, and her eyewitness, who got her help through the sheriffs department. It has hurt us deeply. Surely this is not a church's role in the community! What is your answer? A. Of course it is wrong for a church to slander anybody's reputation. But one wonders just how a church could do that. Or was it, rather, a few people in a church who talked slanderously? Is it quite fair to blame a church for what one or two or even several members might do? We suggest that you talk this matter over with the pastor, who certainly would not want anyone in his church to be hurt Should She Drop Him? Q. I am going with a 77-year-old man since my divorce.
