GAS-SAVING PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, SEPTEBMER 14, lf77 Tennis Squad Hopeful, But Loses Opener McHenry'8 performance during Thursday's season- opening 5-0 defeat to Cary-Grove Thursday is not indicative of how varsity tennis coach Barb Popovich expects her team to play the remainder of the season 'Rather, the new coach is hopeful that once the team gets some practice time in, that it will be competitive in every match. \ Certainly anything is better than what happened Thursday, when Trojan players won all ten sets, six of diem by 6-0 scores. However, to nit the defeat in proper perspective, it must be realized that the Warriors had only five days of practice before the opening match due to some indecision on who would be the head coach. Ms. Popovich was recently named the coach, and she had her team practicing both Friday and Saturday in preparation for a match which was scheduled for Monday against Wauconda. - RESULTS . , No. l singles: Henley (C-G) def. The answer is that they all are senior athletes participating in varsity sports at McHenry Ugh school. Ralph Guzman In the Guzman household, Spanish, not English, is the language predominantly used. This fall on the football field, Ralph, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Guzman of Burton's Bridge, hopes to let his play, both on offense and defense, do the talking far him. The returning letterman is in his fourth year of football at MCHS, a sport he plays besides holding down a part- time job and, of course, attending school. Following graduation next spring, he plans on attending college, and studying either psychology or Spanish. The Guzman family moved to this area about five years ago, ending, for the time being, a series of moves which has brought the family from Mexico to Texas to Woodstock, and finally to Burton's Bridge.
