SECTION 2 - PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY^ SEPTEMBER 18. 1877 Ringwood News 7280343 653-9262 . 728-0295 Dedication Sunday For Memorial Gifts Perhaps you have noticed the change in the windows on the west side of the church in Ringwood this past week. Stained glass windows are replacing the present windows. The new windows, as well as other memorial gifts, will be dedicated during the regular service this coming Sunday morning, Sept. 18 Anyone wishing to worship with us is more than welcome. Last Sunday started the fall session of church school classes. While there was a good attendance, there were a few children we missed by their absence and look forward to seeing them this next Sunday. CAMP-OUT It was Paul and Althea Walking ton's turn to entertain card club so they invited the gang up to their camp grounds on Legend lake. Lee and Christer were also there to help with the hosting duties. Those who packed their sleeping bags and bedrolls to enjoy the beautiful weekend were Walt and Alice Mae Wilcox, Glen and Dorothy Benoy, Dan and Ruth Rawson. Oh yes, cards were played but no one bothered to keep score. VACATIONERS It was three fabulous weeks of sightseeing, camping and visiting family for Earl and Tina Betts and their sons. After chatting with Tina, your reporter was ready to pack her bags and take the same route- through Canada, up to Maine and down the east coast to Florida. They had an opportunity to tour a paper mill in Maine. In New Jersey they visited Tina's brother and family; Earl also tried his hand at deep sea fishing but decided he wasn't completely sold on it, and besides the fish didn't cooperate. In Florida they toured Ft. DeSota, Sea World, Disney World, the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey museum and Circus World. There was something to see and do the entire trip-that's a vacation! ED BETTS TAKES BRIDE It was a very happy occasion for family and friends when Ed Betts took Donna Kinder for his wife during ceremonies at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church in McHenry. It was also an opportunity for a family reunion with the folks coming from Arkansas for the wedding. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Betts, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Dan Betts, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Betts, and Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Peg) Jacques and daughters. We wish the young couple much happiness. CONVALESCING We're happy to report that Bonnie Petska is back home after surgery and doing nicely. Glad to see you back in the neighborhood, Bonnie. BIRTHDAY COOKOUT Everyone was taking ad vantage of the beautiful weather last weekend. At Lowsville they celebrated Ray and Tom's birthdays with a cookout with dad and mom, Walt and Doris Low, over seeing the food. Among those attending were Grandma Mabel Thomas; Bob, Sue and Bobby Low; Pam and Dan Kehoe; Sue Madey and the kids (sorry to hear you weren't feeling well, John); Donna and Patti with her boys. Even Walt and Alice Mae Wilcox got back in time from Legend lake to join the celebration. SEWING WORK DAY The next meeting of the sewing work group will be in the home of Blanche Howe on Keystone road, Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10:30 a.m. HERE AND THERE Last Sunday, Mrs. Nellie Hepburn and Art Jensen drove to Kenosha to visit and have dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy. Thefe's an old story about the fighter in the ring who was back-pedaling around the ropes trying to escape his opponent. Every time he passed his corner, his manager would yell, "Stay in there, he can't hurt you." After the fourth time he went by, the fighter said, "Well, keep your eye on the referee then because someone in here is beating my brains out." Every once in a while, we should feel like that fighter when we take inventory of the State department. I'm not referring to secretaries of state appointed by presidents; I'm talking about those permanent professionals that secretaries of state must depend upon for research and information. William Rusher* the columnist and scholar who does not go off half-cocked, has blown the whistle on three of what he calls" "second echelon State department liberals." Bluntly, he identifies them as Richard Moose? assistant Secretary of State for African affairs; Anthony Lake, direc tor of the Policy Planning staff, D e p a r t m e n t o f S t a t e a n d Donald McHenry, deputy representative of the U.S. to the United Nations Security council. The Bad Guys The question I'm asked most often by sincerely puzzled citizens is "what are we doing in Africa?" There can be no denying we seem to be turning up on the side of the bad guys and ignoring those we should be helping if we truly believe in human rights. Regardless of what you might have heard. Rhodesia is SECTION 2 - PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER going forward with a plan to the Rev. Sithole. All of these end white minority rule and have a government by majority rule. This means, first of all, a free, fair election to choose a black prime minister. There are several Rhodesian political leaders in the running for this post. Most are capable men who want a peaceful transition with respect for the rights of all Rhodesians, black and white. Such men as Senator and Chief Chirau, Bishop Murozewa and men have legitimate backing by black Rhodesians, and they believe in true democracy. Any one of them could conceivably be elected in a fair election. There are two other names; Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe. The only thing they have in common with the other three is that they, too, are black. There, any resemblance ends. They are tied to the Soviet Union (indeed. SEPTEMBER It. 1877 creasingly seems to be the USSR's chosen favorite) and are spokesmen only for the men with guns, the terrorists who conduct -raids under their leadership on innocent black and white Rhodesians, killing men, women and children indiscriminately. No Substantial Following Nkomo and Mugabe want an overthrow by force and, presumably, a Marxist government , imposed on Rhodesia at gunpoint. They don't want an election because they couldn't win one. They have no substantial following whatever among black Rhodesians. These are the two candidates our State department trio - Lake. Moose and McHenry - are trying to cram down the throats of British and American negotiators and, of course, the throats of six million black Rhodesians. Why? Why are specialists in the U.S. State department doing everything they can to force pro-communist terrorists on a people who don't want them, wouldn't vote for them in a free election and who are on their way to a peaceful transfer to government by majority rule? Who can say? But, like the State department's deference to Peking these days, it may be a matter of giving the grease to the squeakiest wheel. At any rate, Bill Rusher has served notice on this State department trio that their work won't be done in the dark any longer. "Hansel-Grotel" To Visit Optra House Sept 23 The National Marionette company presents its production of "Hansel and Gretel" at the Woodstock Opera House Friday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. This children's classic is brought to life with scenes of eerie forests, crying trees, talking crows, shim mering waterfalls, and the familiar gingerbread house. A special twenty-two foot long stage will be erected upon the permanent stage of the Opera House to house the thirty puppet performers. Seven operators, under the direction of Ralph Kipness, guide the thirty-six to forty-eight inch tall marionettes through the original music by Englebert Humperdinck. Adults and children will appreciate this full ^ scale marionette production. Tickets are available at the Woodstock Opera House, at some business firms, or by calling 338-4212. 0 CONSUMER GUIDELINES You should keep oil records and receipts used in your tax preparation for at least throe years.
