A happy ending to a Helping Paws adoption when two strays feand a geed home and a kind < H HELPING PAWS ̂ ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P. O. Box 205 • Crystal Lake, (Ninon 60014 • (SIS) 459-2641 C> strait a Ai BSTwilw Foundations have been laid - not yet in concrete and stone, - but in perseverance of purpose, to found a cooperative humane society shelter in our area. Helping Paws workers know the desperate need for such a facility; evidently so do some of the readers. Recently a note came in the mail, enclosing a check. It came from some of our young readers and we'd like to share it with you: "Dear Helping Paws, My friends and I wanted to help you make an animal shelter. So we collected money from our neighborhood. We made $25. We are glad to help you because we love animals." Sincerely, signed Kim Schmidt, Mary Endres, and Kris Good. All live in Algonquin. How ever the goal of a shelter is accomplished, we can use all the financial assistance we can get. Those wishing to assist may send contributions to Helping Paws, P.O. Box 205, Crystal Lake, 60014, designating them as donations to the Shelter fund. While vacant land is being considered as a site for a facility, it just may be that we'll be fortunate enough to move faster toward our goal. The reason - a property in cluding buildings suitable for this purpose may possibly become available. If this should materialize we may even be established before the cold weather arrives. We are sorry our message recorder was out of order recently and regret any in convenience caused to those who called in. It was in service again commencing Monday, Sept. 12. We should like to explain that due to our new education programs the office hours which are 10 to 2, Monday through Saturday, may at times not be fixed to those specific hours. Instead, the recorder will give the alternate r that hours for day when you may call and reach a Helping Paws worker. Phone 4S0-2641. Sealed Proposals for the construction of Water Supply Well No. 6 for the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois, will be received by the City Council at the City Hall until 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, Sept. ill De Health Tip (From the American Medical Associaiton) Overweight CMMrea That plump, healthy, happy youngster may grow up into a fat, unhealthy, imhappy older child, and later into a fat adult who is prey to all of the physical ailments that are a part of obesity. Faulty eating habits started ip early childhood,;often are (he cause of overweight adults in later life, says the American Medical association. All too many mothers, with the best of intentions, nag their children into eating more than they want to eat. The healthy, fat baby who remains chubby as he grows into pre-school and first grade years becomes less attractive as an individual. And the habit of eating more calories than necessary is likely to remain the rest of his life. The parent who thinks the child should lose weight should seek expert help on bow he should lose it. if it fits your doctor's counsel, here are some tips to help your youngster lose weight - Weigh once a week and keep track of the weight. Use the same scale and wear ap proximately the same clothing. It isn't necessary to cut out all desserts and snacks, as long as their calorie count is in cluded in the daily total. Fresh fruits are good for snacks. Keep a supply of raw carrots, radishes, celery sticks and pickles for more snacking. Tomato juice or dear bouillon can serve for drinks. " Cut out rich salad dressings; instead use vinegar and lemon jice. Trim fat from meat, take it easy on the butter, substitute skim milk for whole whole milk. But be sure to serve plenty of fruits and vegetables The most important factor in helping the obese child to reduce poundage is to handle it naturally. Don't make a point of telling the child he is on a reducing diet. Just serve the meals naturally and as a matter of course. Avoid nagging the child about his weight and his diet. It will only make him more rebellious and more inclined to snack on the sly. for ten percent (10 percent) of the amount of the bid as >rovided in the Instructions to 4. Rejection of bids.
