Hospitality Day Home m mmm .... • ••• • • The twenty-second annual Holiday Hospitality day, sponsored by the Woman's Auxiliary for Memorial hospital for McHenry county, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Woodstock. One of the four houses open on the house tour is the Herb Kemp home. Built 26 years ago, its neat, well-kept look makes it seem very contemporary. The entry hall wall is dramatically decorated with a handsome lavabo containing a dried arrangement. To the left of the entry hall is a large living XQonUhat is warm and inviting. It is done in browns and golds wjth champagne colored carpeting. A focal point for the living room is a fireplace whose mantel holds a collection of brass candlesticks. One pair of the candlesticks came from a Buddhist temple in Taipei, Taiwan. They were the gift of a niece who lived there for several years. Above the mantel are four framed mirrors with two smaller mirrors off to the right. It is an unusual and effective decorating touch. At the end of the living room is a pleasant dining area. An attractive corner cupboard displays items that Mrs. Kemp has collected. A cleverly concealed door, which is covered with striped wallpaper, leads to a charming screened porch. The kitchen carries out the brown and gold theme. The end wall has a convenient pass- through to the screened porch. A cheerful corner with windows overlooking the garden holds a walnut table that belonged to Mrs. Kemp's great- grandmother. A door at the far end of the kitchen leads to a utility room with many storage cupboards. That handiest of all kitchen adjuncts, a large desk, also has a spot here. Tlie house, which is all on one level, has two bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom has a bedside table that was hand made by Mr. Kemp's gr^pt-grandfather. Another furnishing handed down in the family is a Victorian sofa which is covered in gold fabric. A large painting on the wall above the sofa is an American primitive reminiscent of the style of Grandma Moses. It was found in the attic of an aunt and professionally restored. In the second bedroom, the oak flooring is covered by several small Oriental rugs. Lovely antiques were also used to furnish this room. The bed has a high walnut headboard and the chests have carved acorn drawer pulls and han dkerchief box tops. At the entrance to this room are pictures of the farm home where -Mr. Kemp grew up. The Kemps have lived in this house for almost a year. To make it more suitable for their needs, they have added a room across the back of the house where there was formerly a breezeway. It is a combination office for Mr. Kemp and a family room. An old fashioned roll top desk has been used in the office. Another of the in teresting antiques in the family room is a "pie safe" that has been restored and refinished. In the year the Kemps have resided in this charming home, it has taken on a very settled and comfortable look. Come visit the home on Hospitality day, Wednesday, Oct. 5. It is one of the many delights awaiting when the Woman's auxiliary of Memorial hospital for McHenry County en tertains. BIRTHS MONDAY'S CHILD is fair of face.
