"However," he said, "ex tremely stringent sanitary requirements keep all but a very few U.S. packing plants out of this market." Corn sells for $5 a bushel in Germany. Block said, making it seem that selling our $1 50 per bushel corn in Germany would be an easy task But a common market floating levy policy insures that U.S. com is always equal or more expensive than German corn This makes it very dif ficult to get U.S. grain into the market Until The Well Runs Dry' AU STANDARD J* s 50* * ^"7 mi w* rMl A r5df f1/ r5df f1/ If! it«Hl « §JJ' n*" ; •1 1 BRING YOUR FRIENDS! BE THE BIG SPENDER" ASKED How Low Can They Go? Fiance has nervous problems Q My fiance is 22 years old and has always been nervous. He shakes and sweats and has trouble talking to and getting along with other people. He has no self-confidence. He sometimes goes into a sort of shell and then gets depressed. I love him for the kind, gentle, sweet person he is. How do I break him of his nervousness and depression? I think if I cure him of his nervous habits and instill some self-confidence in him he wouldn't be afraid to try anthing or do anything for fear of failure. But the big question is HOW? Please tell me how to help him. A The problem with your fiance is not necessarily lack of self- confidence but rather an emotional personality disorganization. It is entirely possible that some unconscious reaction is manifesting itself in the shaking and sweating which you describe. The reaction is somewhat like that of shivering when one goes from a warm room to the outside on a cold day. But the act of shivering the body is attempting to adjust to the changed climate. The mind can react similarly. In our judgment your fiance could overcome this trouble by developing a deep spiritual awareness, for that will create a better balance in his essential nature. We have written a booklet, No More Mental and Emotional Strain, that has helped others with questions such as yours, and a copy of it is on its way to you. Anyone reading this column who wishes a free copy may write to: Dr. and Mrs. Peale, Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564. Retired Husband Has Become A Philanderer Q. We came to Florida to retire. Now that we are settled my husband says he is tired of married life. He wants to be "free as a bird" tocome and go as he pleases-no questions asked. He travels to Europe three times a year and spends vacations with other women I think he hastoo much free time on his hands, but he does not agree. He stays slim for the ladies he dines and dances with. He's a sharp dresser, claims he's good looking-charming. I still love my husband, more than ever. But he keep6 pushing me for a divorce, ignores and rejects me and is pushing me out of our home that we own. Please help me. I am desperate. A. We get two impressions out of your question. From your description of your husband he seems to be a shallow person. And the second impression is that you don't know how to handle him. How you can love an ephemeral husband is difficult to understand, but sometimes there is no logical explanation for human reaction. Since you say you love him in spite of his desire to have his freedom, it would seem that your best bet might be to get yourself done over at the beauty shop, spruce up your clothes the way he has his, then find some activities outside your home to keep you busy and make you a more interesting person. Then, picture yourself going on dates with your "charming" husband. Sweetheart Drinks Too Much Q. I have a sweetheart that I love very much. He drinks a lot, really too much to suit me. But when he isn't drinking he is as sweet as can be, I really need him very much. I love to be in his company when he isn't drinking. The very times I need him and want to be with him is on weekends, and that is when he is drinking the most. And I am all alone and lonely by myself. I pray that he will stop drinking and will go to church and serve God. Can you help me with this problem? A. Your sweetheart has a serious problem that could ruin your life as well as his. Sweet as he is when he's not drinking, if he drinks too much and becomes antisocial when he does, he needs to change. Look up your nearest Alcoholics Anonymous chapter in the phone book and try to interest your sweetheart in attending their meetings. They offer an effective program for overcoming a drinking problem, and it includes a strong religious faith. Since you aren't married to the guy, if he doesn't improve, we suggest you don't wait around for him on weekends but find other friends and keep busy. Actress, Humanitarian "Laughter is like air and water to me,"%said Rosalind Russell, whose warmth and wit touched millions of movie goers for over forty years. During the last sixteen years, living with the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis, Ms. Russell kept that spirit alive. "How's the pain, darling?" asked her busband of thirty- five years, Frederick Brisson. Her answer? "It's a pain in the derriere." In spite of the agony in which she lived, she offered public and private encouragement to twenty million fellow sufferers of her crippling disease. Faith in God and ourselves gives us peace and the assurance we will overcome." "Roz" Russell made more movies than can be mentioned. She appeared with every leading man in Hollywood. To many fans, she is perhaps best remembered as "Auntie Mame." "I like Mame," Ms. Russell once said, "because she loathes bigots. Her tongue is flam boyant but her heart's right. She can't stand the second rate in anything. She's kooky, but she's essentially sound. 'Ex periment,' she says. 'That's the clue, that's the life force...Live, live, live!' " When Rosalind Russell died, Jimmy Stewart put it this way: "God at this very moment is probably having the daylights charmed out of Him...with plenty of action...and so much laughter. Thank you God, for giving her to us. Take care of her...we sent you our best this time." And Frank Sinatra said at her funeral, "Roz didn't lose her life on Sunday...She's been giving it away for years." Credit Costs "Do you live within your in- come?"
