They'd better be if you want to set a good pat tern for between-meal breaks. After all, the habits could last a lifetime. Shiny apples, grapes, home made cookies and chilled mugs of milk. Wouldn't that appeal to a hungry youngster? If you want to add a bit of sophistication to the picture, why not miniature kabobs of apple squares threaded with cubes of Cheddar and Swiss cheese and grapes? Kabobs might also be made of those leftover sliced wieners alternated with cheese cubes, cherry tomatoes and cucumber chunks. Or, make a cheese spread soft enough for dunking celery and carrot sticks. The same spread can also be used on crackers or sandwiches. With the new, fast 'burger makers in many homes, they can make a grilled cheese in just moments. If that's not available, a heavy skillet can do the job. Spreading the sandwich on the outside with butter helps to brown it attractively and makes it taste better. INSTRUCTIONS Beginning and intermediate piano students now being ac cepted for lessons. Gilpin, Oty Clerk aMP "V- Facts From McHenry Community High School ' CPR Skills Save Lives McHenry high school is training over 300 students to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, a life-saving skill that has become an integral part of all first aid instruction. The word "Cardio" means heart, "pulmonary" means lungs, and "resuscitation" means to revive. It is performed on a person whose heart and breathing have stopped. The rescuer mechanically and artificially duplicates the actions of the victim's heart and lungs. CPR is a combination of mouth to mouth, artificial respiration, and external heart massage. Part of the Health Education course at East campus is devoted to first aid. It is a course that all freshmen must take. During this first aid unit, students are divided into groups. While one group is learning CPR, the other groups are learning how to treat severe bleeding, poisoning, burns, and shock. Resusci-Annies Students are trained in CPR on manikins called "Resusci- Annies." These manikins are designed to simulate the parts of the human body that a rescuer would work with in performing CPR. By practicing on the manikins, students perfect their skills. This perfection is vitally important. CPR is not something you can learn easily and do well just by watching someone else perform it. And, to do it improperly is not wily useless, but could even be harmful or fatal. The students must demonstrate that they have perfected the skills. If they do not perform properly, they are required to continue practicing until they do. They are not allowed to fail this test. Once they do perform properly, they are certified by the school as having taken a course in CPR and demonstrated that they can perform it properly. They are then registered with the Illinois Heart association and receive a card that acknowledges their ability. Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, McHenry will offer night classes in CPR on a regular basis. They will be held at East campus. Any person can take the class and if they perform properly, can be certified and registered with the Illinois Heart association. For details on dates and times, and to enroll in these free courses, please contact Ray Ma this at East campus. / • FOUND White long haired female cat, with green collar.
