(Duke) Norton in wedlock Saturday, Sept. 24. The bride was given in marriage by her father and stepfather before the Rev. Herman Graef during the 3 o'clock service. The altar was decorated with bouquets of gladioli, daisies, mums and carnations. Maria Guettler provided organ music. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Michelsen of 817 N. Center street, McHenry, and Mr. and Mrs. George Vanderwiel of 8802 Burton road, Wonder Lake. The groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Norton, Sr. of 9119 Memory Trail, Wonder Lake. The bridal gown was of white qiana, full length, designed with a beaded bodice, beaded long sleeves and trimmed with Venice lace. The A line skirt swept into a full train. Her Juliet cap held a waist length illusion veil and she carried a bouquet of white roses, baby's breath and ivy. Robin Vanderwiel „ of McHenry attended her sister as maid of honor with another sister, Karen Vanderwiel of McHenry and Anita Paunescu of Spooner, Wis., formerly of McHenry, acting as bridesmaids. The bride chose baby blue crepe sleeveless floor length gowns for her attendants. "Hie dresses were styled with an empire waistline featuring a royal blue velvet panel flaring in soft folds from a center clasp to the hem. Royal blue capes completed the epsembles. Bouquets of blue and pink carnations, baby's breath and ivy were carried,, . > The groom chose his brother, Sid Norton of Wonder Lake to assist as best man while groomsmen included two other brothers, Denny Norton of McHenry and Reuben Norton, Jr. of Woodstook. Ushering duties were handled by Ed McCormick of Harvard and Jim Mazan of Wonder Lake, friends of the groom. The mother of the bride wore a coral formal length sleeveless empire style gown with a cape trimmed in coral lace while the groom's mother chose a beige princess style floor length gown with long floral print chiffon sleeves. Each wore a white rose corsage. Approximately seventy-five guests gathered at the home of the bride's father in Wonder Lake for an open house reception following the ceremony. Of special interest was the beautiful four-tiered wedding cake made and decorated by the mother of the groom. Frosted in white, it was flowered with blue roses and topped with illiminated bride and groom figurines. Honored guests included the bride's aunt, Mary Anderson, and daughter, Dawn, from Phoenix, Ariz., and the groom's sister, Deanna Leittl and daughter, Jodine, and son, Kevin, from Denver, Colo. The couple are making their home in Wonder Lake and plan to take a belated honeymoon trip at a later date. The bride is a 1975 graduate of McHenry Community high When the United Methodist Women met the evening of Sept. 15, Mrs. Evelyn Smith gave a brief review on some of the studies being used by the Ubited Methodist Women throughout the world and in troduced Mrs. Liz Nolan, a McHenry city councilman and member of the church, who illustrated the women's role in the church and community. A filmstrip "Caribbean Crosscurrents" for the study theme "The Caribbean Crescent" and a short quiz on the Bible, introducing the study "Women and the Bible" were very interesting, entertaining, as well as informative. Plans are being made to have a mini bazaar sale in the evening for the ladies who are unable to attend during the day however, the date of the mini sale has not yet been set. The women of the First United Methodist church of McHenry have a general meeting the third Thursday of each month, usually at 12 noon; however, once a year they have an evening meeting so that the Evening Circle and other ladies of the church who cannot attend the daytime meetings will be able to participate. The evening circle acted as the hostesses and were in charge of the program. i Mrs. Evelyn Smith, the pastor's wife, welcomed the ladies to the meeting after which Mrs. Gloria Cassell gave the meditations in the Sanc tuary, which were very in teresting and inspiring. But, most of all, all appreciated her sharing the original poem she composed entitled "Staring" which was very beautiful. The next general meeting will be the date of the annual fall bazaar and luncheon so there will be no formal meeting. Thursday, Oct. 20, will feature a very delicious luncheon and the annual fall bazaar. Tickets can be obtained from any circle member or at the church. The bazaar will open at 10 a.m., and continue until about 4:30 p.m. Luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. Coffee and refreshments were served and a social time was enjoyed. This was changed because of the need for the new president to have an opportunity to convene her board. Sister Virginia has left for an assignment in Rome, and Almarie James has accepted the presidency. Among the items of business discussed at the Sept. 15 board meeting was the "initiation" of the medical van, project of the Clothing Closet. It is a "doc tor's office on wheels in McHenry county; rented from the Lake County Medical clinic. . It will be in McHenry twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays. A qualified doctor, nurse, and driver will be on the van to give medical diagnosis, tests, and treatment to both children and adults. If frequent follow-up or emergency treatment of a serious problem is needed, the patient will be referred to a doctor of his choice or to a hospital emergency room. Fees will be minimal and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. This new project of Church Women United is a result of efforts of Church Women United and their Clothing Closet board.
