Approximately 1,200 principals from ,»> j throughout the state attended .i,; this annual meeting held at the Un Arlington Park Hilton, Oct. 2 .. through 5. The entire conference was planned and conducted by ^.members of the association, which includes principals at the ^.elementary, junior and senior v! high school levels. This year's (i,.conference theme . of 1 "Education: What's Right? 0v-What's Wrong What's New:", v r consisted of a variety of large and small group session, of- fered to help principals im- J prove in their job performance and to better serve children in the the schools throughout ,v' state. ^ Two outstanding speakers ^ were featured at the general sessions of the conference, j t4 Nationally known psychiatrist j l( and noted lecturer, Dr. Murray u. Banks, addressed the opening 'general se&sion with his en­ tertaining and informative . .world renowned presentation, "How To Live With Your­ self. ..Or What To Do Until The Comes." May and Van Bosch will be sharing the ideas and materials received at the conference with their fellow administrators and respective building staffs. Major national companies producing educational materials and providing educational services displayed their wares during the duration of the conference. Principals could browse, sample and pre- review at their convenience. Literature on new programs was also available for their taking. The I.P.A. had continually provided quality conferences for its professional members, in order that quality education can be continued throughout the state. The variety of alternatives available to all principals makes them feel this conference is a worthwhile one, no matter what level of school a principal is in charge of, or* individual local concerns exists. McHenry Artists Participate In Fall Festival The public is cordially invited to attend the Fourth annual Fall Festival of Arts, sponsored by American Society of Artists, a national membership organization, at Crystal Point Mall, Rt. 14 and Main, Crystal Lake, Saturday, Oct. 22, 10 to 5:30, and Sunday, Oct. 23, 12 to 5. Among the exhibitors will be Edward Meyer, exhibiting watercolors, and Berniece Papiech, 1109 Cumberland Circle, exhibiting oil paintings. Both are from McHenry. Big Pumpkin Contest Finals Slated Saturday Harvey Christensen, president of the Woodstock Men's Garden club, announced that the finals in the McHenry county "Big Pumpkin" contest will be held at the bandstand in the Woodstock city square at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. There will be five classes of pumpkins judged based on the following: heaviest pumpkin; lightest pumpkin. (Must be orange in color); largest pumpkin measured around its circumference; longest pumpkin measured from its stem to its base; overall smallest pumpkin. To be eligible the growers of the pumpkin must be under 18 years of age and a resident of McHenry county. First, second, third and fourth places will be awarded in each of the five classes: $5 first place; $3 second place; $2 third place and $1 fourth place. A certificate of participation will be awarded to all those entering the contest. The contest is the result of the distribution of over 200 packets of pumpkin seeds to the school children in McHenry county by the Woodstock Men's Garden club through the conservation education coordinators.
