DAR To Welcome State Chairman Speaker Oct. 24 Mrs. Pauline Routson, state chairman National Defense, will be the afternoon speaker at the Oct. 24 meeting for mem bers and guests of the Kish- waukee Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The business meeting will begin at 11 aim., at the home of Mrs. R.O. Andrew, 441 Lawndale, Woodstock, with Mrs. Lester Edinger serving as co-hostess. The business meeting will include a report from delegates of the highlights of the Oct. 7 round table meeting at Arlington Heights and a budget report by treasurer, Mrs. Donald Williams. Following the business meeting and 12:30 luncheon, Mrs. Pauline Routson will give a talk entitled "National Defense, Your Chapter and You.*' Mrs. Routson has been a member of DAR chapters in Ohio, Connecticut, Washington State, and Illinois. She was appointed Connecticut State National Defense chairman in 1971 and Illinois State National Defense chairman in 1977. In addition to her National Defense duties, she has served as librarian and on the bylaws and budget committees of the Eli Skinner DAE chapter in Illinois. And it came entirely at _the expense of the farmer. Look at what happened to food prices the past three years and how much was due to the farmer. 1974 -- Prices jumped 14Vi percent. The farmer got only about one-fourth of the in crease. 1975 -- Up another 8Vi percent. Again, the farmer got about one-fourth of the hike. 1976 -- The price rise slowed considerably, up only about three percent. And the farmer got none of it. All of the hike went to those who handle and process the food. In fact, what the farmer got out of consumer food expenditures in 1976 actu ally decreased. While the farmer was (ret ting about four percent less out of consumer food expen ditures last year, the han dlers and processors of food received five percent more. So, it was at the farmers' expense that price increases between field and family were held to just 3 percent.
