HERE S^ND THERE Art and Katy Christopher enjoyed beautiful weather in Wisconsin last weekend while visiting Diane and Gary Lin- stad and Art's folks, the Clarence Christophers. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy of Kenosha spent an enjoyable day visiting in the Brennan- Hepburn home last Saturday. COMMUNITY SADDENED The community was sad­ dened to hear of the death of a former minister of the Ringwood United Methodist church, Rev. Willis Walker. Services were held in Lockport United Methodist church Tuesday of this week, with buriel in Woodlawn Memorial cemetary near there. FAMILY GATHERING The family gathered at the Walt Low home for a late dinner last Sunday. Family members were introduced to Phil Crocfer of California who will marry Donna Low Saturday night Oct. 29 at the Ringwood church. All became acquainted and congratulations were extended to Donna and Phil. Hudson, who has taught adult education courses in basic photography, will present guidelines for the beginner on types of cameras, films and lenses and their applications to outdoor photography. The discussion of field techniques, use of blinds and studio set-ups will be of interest to the more advance photographer. An excellent nature slide presentation entitled "Nature Nearby" will illustrate the results of Hudson's ten year experience as a naturalist and photographer. The slide program beautifully illustrates the adaptations and changes of the natural world through the seasons. Concluding the program will be an open forum for the ex­ change of ideas, problems and solutions encountered by nature photographers. A STRANGE IMA OP RIGHTS If you are an American, "human rights" means freedom. Freedom to worship as you believe, go ' where you please, vote for (or against) your represen­ tatives in government-in short, to make your own decisions about your own life. This is the first paragraph of an advertisement placed in the Plaindealer last week beside the paper's listing of the church directory. I do not deny the right of the John Birch Society to place ads expressing their convictions about the United Nations. I agree with this first paragraph. But I remind you also that when we say our pledge to the flag, we use a phrase, "nation under God". There are many nations under God on this planet. Many of them are dictatorships, both right wing and left wing. In many of them "human rights" take a secondary position to the human thrust toward ab­ solute power on the part of determined leaders. The United Nations is an instrument to bring together the representatives of these many nations in dialogue with one another. Many things have hap­ pened in the world since the United Nations was formed that are displeasing to all of us. We cap blame these tragedies on the United JUations or we can blame them on God. The fact of history is that there is no nation with clean hands. We must look at our own nation's treatment of the American In­ dian and the black imported slave of Africa as we decry civil rights violations today. We are all in the same camp when it comes to the need of God's forgiving grace. The United Nations provides a way to reach out to each other and do some good together. An example of the good that can be realized is through the children of the world collec­ ting for U.N.I.C.E.F. which helps to bring medicine, health services and better nutrition to needy children in poor countries. It seems to me more in the spirit of our Lord to see what good can be done now, than to fix blame for the sins of the past. Jesus often found that Samaritans, whom the Jews had no dealings with, were capable of doing very humane and com­ passionate deeds.
