Members of the McHeriry Woman's club are handling arrangements for the trip. Information brochures will be on display at the club's next meeting, Nov. 10. Since November is National Art month, members are asked to bring their art or craft projects to the Nov. 10 meeting for display. The program to be presented is entitled "Arts and Crafts" and a "pennies for art" collection will be taken. The day of the meeting is also reciprocity day. The meeting will begin at 12 noon at the McHenry VFW hall. Reservations and in­ formation concerning the Cruise are available by calling 385-0289. • 99 MARY K. SCHMITT The McHenry area most surely is blessed with women who are outstanding for their accomplishments even though far past the accepted age of major activity. The Plaindealer would like to pay tribute to them through a new column to be known as "The Elegant Eighties" or "The Nifty Nineties". Suggestions of women who might qualify, along with a brief resume, may be made by notifying the news desk. Combine the qualities of a sharp inquisitive mind, a lively interest in our world and a charming wit and the character of Mary K..Schmitt begins to emerge. Provide a background of pioneer spirit and service to others; frame it with faith in her God, love for her fellowmen and hope for our country's future and the picture is complete. These qualities have served Mary well for the past 97 years and, as she begins her ninety-eighth year Nov. 8, the character will remain stead­ fast. Miss Schmitt was born in Johnsburg in 1879, where her great grandfather, Frederick Schmitt, was one of the three first settlers in the community. She recalls tales from her father relating-that the Indians in the area were friendly and enjoyed visiting her great grandfather and smoking tobacco he gave them for their pipes. At an early age, she taught at the old Spring Grove Prairie school. She remembers with happiness when in 1973, she renewed acquaintances at a gathering with many who said she had been their first teacher. After three years of teaching, she accepted a position as housekeeper for the late Msgr. Krug, a service she provided for 50 years. Nancy Moore Lectures To Mothers Club Double Dilemma Mothers of , Twins clup will meet at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8 at St. Paul's church, 485 Woodstock street, Crystal Lake. This month a lecture entitled "Will it come out in the wash?" will be given by Nancy Moore from the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension service. The club, open to all mothers of multiple birth children, recently participated in the Illinois Organization of Mothers of Twins clubs annual convention held in Des Plaines. We have now started our fifth year with happy hearts and the hope that we can do even more for those who are in need of transportation on an emergency basis to doctor's offices, telephoning shut-ins, ill or handicapped folks to keep them in contact with the outside world, emergency help from our Pantry, as well as advising the proper people to contact regarding problems you may have. We also wish to welcome new Fish members; we know they will enjoy their part in this most satisfying work.
