Birthright is an international organization offering free emergency service to pregnant women. It is incorporated at the state level and there are now Birthright offices operating throughout the state. The organization has an office and a telephone service where every pregnant woman can obtain help with a simple telephone call. All calls are handled confidentially (the caller may remain anonymous if she wishes). Birthright is' not a new agency set up to compete with existing health and social service programs, but is dedicated to bringing together the distressed woman and the existing federal, state, local and private agencies waiting to help her. They will inform her of all services available in that the woman, faced with a problem pregnancy, will seek an alternative to abortion before making a decision. Volunteers, both professional and non-professional are needed in the establishment of the McHenry county Birthright office. The non-professional volunteers will man the telephone and office and provide the friendship and, emotional support that the woman may need at this trying time in her life. All volunteers do not necessarily work with the client but may work in such areas as recruitment - and training of volunteers, liaison with community services, maternal housing, fund raising and publicity. Birthright is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization, sup ported by private donations. All donations to Birthright have been declared tax-deductible by the Internal Revenue ser vice. \ For more information or to volunteer services, write Birthright, 4611 W.
