M c H e n r y c o u n t y Homemakers Extension association council held its annual Christmas party and meeting recently at the home of Mrs. Marge Marlowe of Huntley, 111. A business meeting was held during the morning hours of the same day with Helen Heider presiding in the absence of President Connie Steffen. After various reports were read, Mary Kynell was ap pointed chairman of the nominating committee and will be contacting members to fill seven vacancies for the coming year. Carolyn Steck reminded all members about saving the United States cancelled stamps and bringing them to the office or to any member of the Homemakers Extension association. These stamps are offered overseas for food for the starving children fund. Nancy Moore, extension home economist, presented the council with a chart on the recent breast cancer screening that was sponsored by the association. One hundred and seventy-seven women par ticipated in the program. The membership of the Homemakers Extension association sincerely hopes that they have been of some benefit to those who took part. The afternoon meeting was the time of the Christmas party and a gift exchange, with George Young, former agriculture extension adviser, as a guest of honor. As a farewell gesture, the council members invited him to join the party. A pot luck luncheon was served with each member bringing a dish to pass. For dessert, a cookie and candy exchange was held and each member made her favorite and also brought along the recipe. These recipes will be printed and given to the Homemakers Extensions associations members. The January meeting will be held Jan. 9. All council mem bers and advisory members are asked to attend. All units who do not have advisory representatives at these meetings are asked to send them as the meetings will be of more interest to units with their own representation. Well, here we be, wi' another Christmas time at hand, an' th' heart full o' good wishes f'r friends an' loved uns. Many folks, lonely f'r th' sight o' dear ones,,'11 ha' th' chance t' spend a happy hour 'r two wi' 'em, t' make th' memory o' this year a happy one t' recall. Parents wi' th' very young, 're having' th' time o' their lives, plannin' f'r th' festivities, but th' real joy is a seein' th' bright little faces, when they view th' pretty Christmas tree. Th' wonder an' excitement warms th' heart, but th' story o' Christmas, an' its real meanin', taught t' a child, c'n shape that little life, so that love f'r fellowman may grow in th' heart, an' bring joy t' those who touch that life. A lot o' folks '11 spend too much, a thinkin' t' make th' holiday a special one, but there's somethin' that's worth more 'n money c'n buy, an' wi'out it all th' expensive gifts ha' no meanin', an' that's th' love o' someone special, an' families who care. There's a lot o' people, wi'out family 'r friends t' help make th' holidays a happy time, an' it b'hooves us, all, t' r'member them, when we can. When th' glad season rolls around, those special ones feel more lonely 'n e'er. It gives us a good feelin't' not have our boys engaged in unhappy military action. We better be careful t' keep it that way, ipe thinks. Wi' so much unrest in important areas o' .thisol' globe, most anythin' c'n happen. Wi' all th' good things makin' th' house smell like it ne'er does, any other time o' th' year, a bakin' in th' oven, puddin's a steam in, candy in th' makin', boxes o* trimmin's settin' about, awaitin' th' lovely tree beuT mounted, an' secrets a tryin' t' be kept from pryin' eyes, an' ears, Christmas proves t' be th' most joyous time o' th' year. E'en th' New year's celebrations ne'er measure up t' th' excitement, which begins t' build, around th' first o' th' last month o' th' year. This o' lady wishes one an' all, th' happiest holiday e'er. Merry Christmas an' may th' good Lord inspire love f'r fellowman, all o'er the world. Grandma Radtke ijjA|"fflENEW^ARl About Your Wedding...
