Of course, we have joined the same group for many years, but each year is different. The ranks have thinned. Those fine men remaining are now in their 80's or 90's. But, what spirit! You should have seen those gals. They were dressed up in their best Sunday-Go-To- Meetin' gowns and looked very neat. Well, we ate, sang 9ongs, told yarns, had a good visit and parted with Merry Christmas to all. Dear Santa: I know you have been busy so have put off sending my list. PLEASE BRING: Fairness. Consideration for the feelings of others. A string to tie around my finger. Tolerance. A formula to end strikes. Never mind the hair tonic. It didn't work. A fair share of victories for our athletic teams. (They don't have to win every game, but should give it a hard try). Peace of mind to the driver who damaged my parked car and ran away. At least two tickets for the World Series in Chicago next year. , (An optomist is a fellow who goes into a restaurant without a cent in his pockets and eats dozens of oysters in the hope of finding a pearl to pay the bill). A pair of socks. (You know the size). A winning bet with John Busscher. Some good days for Joe Wagner, Herb Reihansperger, Junior Freund and Marie Yegge -- all Cub fans. (Some of them must have been in the cradle the last time their team won a pennant). Don't bring us any more of those screeching, hollering singers on the Boob Tube programs. (A good hog-caller is better). ANNUAL GALA 2 NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY y RED CARPET ROOMS GB (Open to the PttMic) McHENRY COUNTRY Ctilg 820 N. John St. McHenry, III. " " A Stocking 'cap for Hairy Dean. r? ' Any help you caii stir up for this column. (It's almost as old as you are, Santa). In the sports world, the Chicago Bears are the talk of (he town after their last second win last Sunday to put them in the playoffs. Seems like nobody thought the Bears could swing a victory as the game progressed. Frank Gende had a few bobs on the Bears and paid off before the game was over. Wonder if he recovered the money? He certainly didn't recover from the shock. That wonderful holiday spirit has swept over the world again in '77 as it has in the past for those who do not reject it. Just walk down the street and you will find people smiling and friendly. A certain spirit of love and good will is in the air. A light heart sometimes grows heavy with the thought that some people face Christmas without enough food, warm clothing or heat. Santa Claus needs lots of help in reaching homes that are not on his list. Thank God there are generous people in the world. However, we should not sit back and wait for the rich to do it all. Even a small donation or generous deed will bring happiness. With gratitude for the good things in life, I sincerely ask God's Blessings of good health and happiness for all. Try as we may to dress it up there is no better greeting than MERRY CHRISTMAS. ymms&im Streams Provide Streams in the United States provide 67 per cent of all the water used by the country's population. Warrior Booster Club News The McHenry Warrior Booster club membership reached 105 at their latft meeting. The attendance was small due to bad weather. Schedules for all sports were passed out to the members and attendance at sport functions was asked. Many plans and fund raising projects are in the making. Volunteers were asked for in selling refreshments at Friday night wrestling matches and Saturday morning basketball games. Coffee, hot chocolate, chips, pop and donuts will be furnished at a small fee. The club is going to put out a free newspaper on all sport activities. The first edition hopes to be sometime in January. Reporters are Wrestling - Charles Zim merman, Varsity basketball - George Mayer, Girl's basketball - Jerry Smith, Soph basketball Colleen Blankenhorn. Reporters are still needed for the rest of the winter sports. Plans are in the process for a fund raising basketball game. The teams will be made up of the Faculty vs. the Intermural All Stars. The second game will be the Alumni vs. a Mystery team. A fun night is planned. All monies from fund raising projects are to be put in an account and the proceeds to be used for a special purpose to be decided later. One purpose talked about was a special fund to be set up for the purpose of supplying money for any student who could not afford to participate in an athletic program. The club would sponsor them. The meeting place has been SNOWMOBILE SNOW HAS ARRIVED Well, the snow has arrived and winter can't be far off. Some of the snowmobile trails are open, others are waiting for the last crops to be harvested and the fall plowing to be finished, before they can be marked and opened. Check with your club to see which trails are open. The trail maps are at the printers and will be available to the snowmobile clubs shortly. You have to belong to a club to get a map and use the trails, otherwise you are trespassing and subject to arrest. Now that the snowmobile season is upon us, it is a good time to review some points of the Illinois Snowmobile law and common sense, both for the newcomers to our sport and those who may have forgotten. All snowmobiles must be registered unless they are only operated on the owners own property or actually being raced in a sanctioned race. If you live in Illinois and operate your snowmobile in Illinois, then it must be registered in Illinois. Other state registrations will not be recognized. The Illinois law states "state of domicile". These registration numbers must be displayed on both sides of the engine cowling in three inch block numerals of a contrasting color. No youngster under 12 may operate a snowmobile. Youngsters over 12 must have a safey certificate, a drivers license, or an adult on the same changed from West campus to the American Legion hall on Ringwood road. The next meeting will be January 5 from 7:30-9:00. Come join us. machine with them. Contact your local snowmobile club about tiaisis for the youngsters. You must have the per mission of every landowner whose property you cross with your snowmobile or you can be arrested for trespassing. One way to ensure you ride legal is to join a club and stay on the marked trails. The Illinois Snowmobile law states that snowmobiles may not be operated along any state or federal highway right of way. That means from fen- celine to fenceline. Along county and township roads you must be at least 15 feet from the edge of the pavement. Check with your local village for local laws. Road crossings must be made at right angles to pavement at a point where there is adequate visability after coming to a complete stop and checking for traffic. Your snowmobile must have an adequate muffler in good working order. If you disagree with the law don't flaunt it, let your legislature know about it and get it changed. Otherwise we all get the image of a lawless lot. One snowmobile going down the side of a state or US highway or across a school lawn leaves a track for people to see until the next thaw or snowstorm. If you see someone violating the law, note the registration number and call the state, county, or local police. We need to improve the image of snowmobiling and get rid of the flagrant violators or we may find ourselves legislated out of existence. Well enough on the law, now a few safety reminders. First always make sure }your machine is in good working order or you may have a long walk home. Make sure the throttle lever is working freely or it may stick and you will find yourself and your snowmobile climbing Jthe nearest tree. The McHenry high J.V. Know your snowmobile and read the owners manual. Have some basic tools along so you can make minor repairs on the trail. Always travel in a group so there is help handy if there is a breakdown or an accident. Always travel on a marked trail so you don't get your head cut off on a barbed wire fence or a telephone pole guywire. Wear a helmet and enough clothing for the weather ex pected that night.
