"Lazy" Eye Blindness Amblyopia or "lazy eye blindness" is the subject of a new Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness pamphlet for parents, teachers, and other lay groups concerned about an affliction that affects an estimated 3 to 4 percent of all children in the United States Youngsters with this problem, according to the society, a non-profit Chicago based organization devote^ to the protection and preservation of vision, are unable to use the portion of the -eye concerned with recognition of form. If treatment is delayed until the child starts school, correction of the defective vision is much more difficult, and it may become impossible. The usual treatment for "lazy eve" consists of patching the good eye to force the child to use the weaker eye When disuse arises from a need for glasses, corrective lenses may be prescribed together with the patching procedure. The ISPB brochure, in ad dition to providing basic in formation about amblyo||»a, also touches on other eye problems in children Copies of the brochure are available for the asking and without charge from ISPB, 53 W Jackson Blvd., Chicago, 111., (*>604 Fondue The word "fondue" comes from the French word "fondre" which means "to melt." Because of so many changes in the tax laws, it's important for taxpayers to begin gathering their records together now, Charles F. Miriani, IRS district director for northern Illinois, said. Records are especially im portant for taxpayers who itemize their deductions, Miriani said, in suggesting that taxpayers find all their records pertaining 9 to itemized deductions and that they sort them into categories as they appear on Schedule A of the Form 1040 Records can also alert taxpayers to deductions or tax credits which they might have overlooked. If any records appear to be missing, taxpayers still have time to look for them or request copies of bills or statements from such sources as banks or hospitals. v Taxpayers who wish to make contributions to an Individual R e t i r e m e n t A r r a n g e m e n t (IRA) will want to gather their records to help determine their income as soon as possible so they will know how much they may contribute to their plan. Taxpayers who sold capital assets during the year, such as stocks or real property, should locate records indicating the date and price of the purchase. Some areas where the law has changed and the affected taxpayers will require records include moving expenses and sale of a residence by those age 65 or over. SIMPLE THOUGHTS As restless as the wind as restless as my heart and soul so restless is my mind because my eyes canriot see beyond today to see into the future, for they are blind- Peace of mind cannot be measured by wordly possessions it comes from within ourselves and if one has lost it - it is gone forever like the light of the sun for one • who is blind... Just reach out and listen , to someone who is in great need and in deep sorrow this gesture can make one a better person with a brighter tomorrow... Like the rain falling from a gray and cloudy sky and the tears in a lonely and hungry child's eye to see them both • and not understanding a raindrop or a tear • is like living without a heart knowing no compassion and no fear ...for the raindrop must fall to still the thirst of a dry earth but a tear of a hungry child does not have to be - it is a disgrace for humanity... Don't walk day by day ' and pretend you cannot see how much pain and sorrow and loneliness is everywhere - don't say, this has nothing to do with me... With every leaf which falls down from the tree one life here on earth comes to an end... and a new life is born full of hope and free...
