Lakemoor-Lilymoor Margaret Karas • 385-4934 Destination Rockford For Derby Winner A "pine box derby" could be a coffin race, but actually it's the reason for a gathering of Pack 131 Thursday, Jan. 19 at Hilltop school. The Cub Scouts are busy making four-inch box cars out of pine, which cannot weigh more than five ounces. Derby night, the boys will race their cars on a track, with the winner going to Rockford to enter competition'there. Among those trying for the prize are" Tim Rice, Billy Goebel, David and Donald Weber, Donovan Brizzi, Alex Metscke, Mike Douglass, Danny Gosell, Keith Westerfield and Tommy Stevens. Good luck to all you Cubs- have a great race. LILYMOORNEWS * The Lilymoor assocation at the monthly meeting Jan. 10, accepted, regretfully, Gary Leske's resignation as treasurer. Sherill Weber will now be handling the finances for this organization, made up of residents of Lilymoor. Somebody has to keep the street lights lit, the road plowed, the garbage picked up, and oversee other necessary services. "Somebody" is each one of us, so when you are asked to pay dues promptly, please do so. Also, if anyone has a fund- raising idea, the treasury is sadly depleted and needs help. Jerry Weber, association president, would be happy to have your suggestions, and would also appreciate your coming to the meetings, the second Tuesday of every month. That's only twelve a year, so it shouldn't be too much of a sacrifice. And it's all for your own benefit. LIBRARY STORY Crocheting instructions will be given Tuesday mornings at 9:30 at the library on Lily Lake road. Bring your hooks, yarn, patterns if you have any, and Louise Hipwell will direct your fingers along new paths. Needlepoint will be taught Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Again, bring your design, needle and thread. Other art forms will be added as requests and available times are coordinated. Call 385-6303 for information. An overdue book wasQ returned to our library by mail from Pennsylvania. It had been taken out in January of 1969 when the library was still located on Route 120 in Lakemoor. It was good to have the book returned, and I was even happy not to have to compute the fine. Let's see, .02 cents per-library-day-open, for nine years? No wonder it was returned anonymously! Your library is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. As one of our faithful users says, "It's not what it looks like on the outside that's important, it's the inside that?1 counts." Make life more enjoyable for yourself, too, and spend a few hours with a good book? OLD TESTAMENT The beautiful first chapters of Genesis will be the subject for an eight-week Bible course offered at Faith Presbyterian church at 9:30 Thursday mornings with Pastor Rick Snyder. Call 385-4934 for transportation or more information. GET WELL Mrs. John Lomax. Llovd Tomlinson, Mrs. Heise, Edye Fitts and Rich Dunnagan have all been on the "not well" list. Carl Stromley and Bruno Karas have something in common with Governor Thompson: sore sacroiliacs. May you all feel better soon. HELP HILLTOP Sherill Weber, president of the Hilltop Parents organization, reminds those of us with children at Hilltop, that the annual Fun fair is coming up February 4. Parents can help as workers that Saturday, or by donating baked goods or white elephants for the auction. Lily Ann Baker is in charge of one of the games. Call Sherill at 344-1955 to state what you can do to help out. One of the benefits from the money made at last years Fun fair will be a cultural field trip for each child at Hilltop. Sharing in the Fun fair gives an opportunity of meeting other parents, enjoying an afternoon in your child's "home away from home", and aiding H.P.O. with their worthwhile objectives. Phil drove to Belvidere to pick up our 87 year old ex-neighbor, who now stays in a home for the aged. Gustav spent the time here playing Canasta with Phil, Barbara and Joe Yerkes, and reliving memories of the 25 years he had his own home here. JANUARY 18. 1978 on the "L", and were awed at the Size of the giant Christmas tree in the Civic center plaza on the way to visit some of mom's onetime co-workers. This trip was an eye opener for mom who hasn't been down to LaSalle and Madison streets for a few years. Those streets are really changing. At the office it was nice to visit with Pearl Skronski, Irene Provost, Ester Escalona, Anne Vogel , Mercedes Jordan, - Dorothy Burdar, and Mary Jo Kryc. The children wanted to know if Rae Ann and Joey Kryc were downtown also, but they were in McHenry with their father, Tony. This trip was an all time first* for Robert, his first time on the "L", in an office building, and meeting the girls in the office, and being downtown. The children enjoyed the adding machines , typewri ters and other office equipment. After the office visit it was a slow trip to State street to see the beautiful windows depicting the stories of a Christmas story and the courtship and marriage of Freddie Fieldmouse and Marsha Housemouse.
