The ruling stated that girls may participate on boy's teams in all sports. To some this may be the answer to a prayer, but to others it is nothing more than a headache. To say the least, it could backfire on the girls. What is to stop a boy from participating on a girl's team. If you recall several years ago when the Dixon high GAA won the state bowling tournament, they had 4 boys on the team. * u In talking with the girl coaches at McHenry high school, they all agreed that this rule could cause some problems. Bonnie Ruggero the girl's sports coordinator probably summed itup best when she said, "I would love to coach a co-ed team" but then added "As sports coordinator, I can see where the girls may be sitting on the sideline while the boys are playing". I think this is the feeling of many of the girl coaches, and I have the feeling that they would like the court ruling reversed. "Radar" Reilly, former Warrior, has broken the assist record for Rock Valley college in Rockford after only 10 games. The young lad is the leading scorer oh the team, and along with another former Warrior, Brian Miller, are the standouts on the Rockford five. With 20 games to go on the season, Reilly may set a record for assists that may never be broken. Congratulations to these two fine lads for a job well done. Everything is all set for the big Alumni game at West campus tomorrow night sponsored by the Booster club. Cliff Fulton just called me to notify that he will be here, and is looking forward to seeing old friends, and former players, and is planning to have a grand old time. The McHenry high school Booster club is sponsoring the basketball gala affair. All proceeds will go toward the athletic fund at the local high school. At present there are about 32 former MCHS athletes who will take part in the game of the season. They are divided into the odd and even years that they graduated from high school. Coaches of the teams are two long time rivals in the North Suburban, Gib Kurtz a former Woodstock "Blue Streak" coach, and our own "Old Warrior" Cliff Fulton. The'teams will take the floor for the following teams. The Mustangs finished in second place behind the Richmond Rams (11-1). The conference championship will be decided this weekend in a Post-Season tournament at the Big Hollow gymnasium. Each team in the conference will have an equal opportunity to win the title. The Mustangs have depended on smart, • aggressive basketball to compensate for a lack of height. The team effort on defense has forced the opposition into numerous turnovers. The ace defensive specialist has been Scott Truckenbrod, who, game after game, will battle the opposition's leading scorer. Other defensive standouts have been Ken Pocsiak, Jim McDonough, Steve Schierra and Tom McMahon. The starting back court duo of John Huff and Mike Sabatka have excelled throughout the season. Sabatka, the team's scoring leader, has been exceptional in every aspect of the game of basketball. Relief at the guard position has been provided by Charlie Wegener and Dan Long. Bill Hermann, Scott Larsen and Ben Schweder have used their speed and quickness to lead the Montini rebounding brigade. Other frontliners, who have shown vast improvement, have been Jerry Balchunas, Curt Rehberg and Mike Leon. The sophomores won 37 to 18. The varsity record now stands at 0 and 4, while the sophs are 2 and 2. Monday, Grant is here at 4:90 p.m. Varsity scoring was as follows: Sharon Smith had 11 pts, along with Lora Jacobs. Debbie Freeland had 9, and Sue Hutchinson and Annette Dercole each had 2. In the sophomore game Sue Haddick had 12 to lead the team, followed by Terri Bo hi man with 11. Vicki Kopsell and Gina Vitangele each had 4. Profits from the marathon will be divided 50-50 between the club and the Right- to-Life association of Crystal Lake. The marathon will run for 24 hours.
