STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Here we be, wi' th' first month o' th' new year nearly gone, a wonderin' how it went so fast. Me ol' rockin' chair's been a creakin' an' a groaning', keepin' up wi' me concerns about so many things, a plaguein' our society, an' th' world in general. Me thinks we'd be a heap better off if we could get back t' livin' less complicated lives. Each year, folks hope that nations '11 solve their differences, an' th' world '11 be a better place f'r humanity. A body's mind don't get any peace, anymore. Seems that societies suffer th' repercussions o' wars, trials an' tribilations o' gover'ments, th' gradual decline barely noticed, 'til it shows in th' childern. Parents don't like t' assume th' blame, but there it lies, right at home. Seems a pity, what's happened t' th' younguns. Societies deteriorate wi' too much social freedoms, an' th' permissiveness, practiced in a rearin' th' young is payin' off, wi' havin' youngsters, hardly out o' swaddlin' clothes, im- mitatin' th' adult social stan dards o' th' day. Th' adults ha' shoved 'em out o' th' nest, from under th' pertective parental wing, an' allowed 'em too much leeway t' do as they please, afore they're out o' kin dergarten, almost. What's happend t' childhood, as we knew it, when we were childern until we were out o' elementary school, art' then we had strict supervision, 'til we reached a stage where we conducted ourselves in telligently.
