A beautiful gesture which was greatly appreciated. White Or Brown? Generally speaking, Americans are split in their preferences between white and brown eggs Interestingly, about four out of five Midwesterners favor white eggs. <jyhile New Englanders slightly favor brown. Box 205 • Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014 • (815) 459-2641 bV &*•!!• Atwell Perhaps you saw the picture recently of the first robin to arrive in this area, feathers all puffy trying to keep warm. It was being fed by mechanics near where it had perched. Brave little fellow. Snowstorms notwithstanding, this arrival means spring is coming and Helping Paws is getting ready for its pre-spring and spring ventures. Exciting to plan, we hope they offer something worthwhile to pel owners, would-be pet owners, and are beneficial to pets. On Saturday, Feb. 11, and Sunday, Feb. 12, HP is spon soring a Valentine pet parade at Crystal Point mall. Posters will soon go up at the mall and application blanks will be available at shops there. Saturday is Feline Fancy day - cats in the show ring, and others nearby for adoption Sunday, it's Canine corner with dogs in the show ring and others nearby for adoption. There are five categories for judging the felines and canines - most dignified, most at tractive, most personality, most affectionate, and most obedient. Visit the HP booth, ta^lk with the representatives, ask questions, voice complaints Whey are always anxious to learn), purchase ID tags for your pet and watch -or par ticipate in the run. Anyone may enter one or more pets in one or all of the five categories. Prizes will be given. Then in April Pawsmobile will the Helping be unveiled. The mobile unit will be em bellished with the HP paws print insignia and all ready to go on its HP public relations missions -- becoming acquainted with residents in various parts of the county, educating the public about pets, carrying smal^'animals for adoption and other related tasks. It can 3erve as tem porary housing for strays as well. A call for volunteers goes out again - those who can act as jii^ges for the pet parade, people to help care for the pets for adoption, those who would like to help prepare the Pawsmobile" for its curtain call; those who may want to attend board meetings to learn more about the organization. Recognition goes to HP contributors - the Christmas appeal for funds has brought in $1,953 so far, most of it in $5 and "$10 donations. These loving donations testify to the num bers of residents in the area who care deeply about animal welfare. To volunteer, to obtain more information on HP activities, or to inquire about the pets listed below call 459-2641, hours 10 to 2, Monday through Saturday.
