Rushing is over 80 years old and not only was bom in Indian Territory near Pryor, Oklahoma No vember 1, 1897, but retains the rootin' tootin' image of the Old West even now, after a lifetime of danger ous, adventurous work in the oil industry. "It was a natural thing to get involved with the oil business because of my fa ther," Rushing told a writer from_The National Council CARD Of THANKS The McHenry Police depart ment is most appreciative of the excellent service provided by Snowmobile club members during last week's snow storm. Therr assistance in traffic control and in delivering medcal supplies is to be commended. McHenry City Police Department 53 *>-1-2-3 You wondered what it was as you drove by Wilmot Road in the Sunnyside-Johnsburg area. You slowed down to look and sometimes even stopped in the middle of the road. You watched Jerry, his family, and their very special friends put it together, piece by piece, nut to bolt, nail to timber, brush to stain. The landscaping must give in to the winds of Winter and await the breezes of Spring. But the construction is finally finished. We are proud of our work and of our new look. Now we are anxious to get to the business it was built for: YOUR REAL ESTATE NEEDS. So if you are thinking of selling, give us a call for a current market evaluation and a fast SOLD sign. If you are looking to buy, stop in and let us find a home that fits your life style. When you do, you'll get our Eight-sided service, and then you too, can have your dream come true. 1-18-2-10 G.J. Rushing's father was a teaming contractor and the owner of several first-class draft horses and mules. Most of his contracts in volved hauling drilling equipment, such as standard derricks, star machines and other types of oil producing equipment. "We h'auled all that Ftutt before anybody ever thought of using a gasoline-engine truck," Rushing recalled. "I'd like to show some of these hot-shot truckers what we could do with a wagon and a couple of mules. It'd turn their hair gray, I'll bet." From working as a team ster with his father, Rushing t went on to a variety of jobs related to oil. "I've laid just about every size of pipeline there is," he said, "and I've built storage tanks out of wood as well as steel." One job Rushing is espe cially proud of involved building wooden and steel drilling rigs in a river bed in Oklahoma. According to engineers, the currents were such that the river bed sup posedly moved several feet downstream each year, mak ing it impossible to securely anchor the rigs. "We went ahead and did it, though," Rushing said with a chuckle. "You know what? We didn't lose a single one." Rushing's work has taken him far and wide; "you go LOST German Shorthaired Pointer, male "Baron" $25 reward. 728- 0526. 53 Lost small dog January 27th, Part Chihuahua, resembles miniature Irish Setter, Named Poncho REWARD 344-2978. 53 t GIVEAWAY To good home, 3 years old St. Bernard, Golden Retriever mix, male, friendly, gentle disposition, call after 6. 815-648- 4288. 53 LOST Small tri-colored Beagle, wandered away from home, In Lilymoor, answers to name of Brandy, 815-344-1942 or 385- 5689. 53 FOUND Black Lab, vicinity McCullom Lake, 385-7402. 53 REAL ESTATE REAL ESTATE PERFORMANCE IS A MATTER OF RECORD WITH REAL ESTATE COMPARES Before you intrust the purchase or sale of a house to just anybody, ask to see the record showing how he compares to other companies. While working for a drilling company in South America he had his neck broken, a devastating injury for most people but a temporary set back for R. E. Rushing. Other v jobs and adven tures he's had include help ing to build the Alcan High way and traveling on horse back across British Colum bia &s part of a team stak ing out the right-of-way for a pipeline. "I've worked hard all my life and I've had a lot of fun," Rushing said. "In fact I'd be working right now if I hadn't gotten into a little wage dispute on a job down in Texas." With a man like R. E. Rushing, it's a safe bet he'll be working again before very long. * * * IN OHIO, a new law will grant a 25 percent reduc tion on fuel bills for all per sons 65 and older with an- nual incomes of less than $7,000. The reduction Will be funded through state ex cise taxes on public utilities and will cover bills for all types of fuel. Ohio's Commission on Aging estimates that older residents will save at least $40 million on this winter's fuel bills. * * • NE\il LEGISLATION in New Jersey exempts resi dents 65 and over from state taxes on income up to $10,000 per year. Also passed was a law under which all residents 65 and over will be required to pay only the first dollar of the cost of their drug prescrip tions, regardless of retire ment income. The remain der of the cost of the pre scriptions will be paid by the state out of general tax revenues. At the same time, the leg islature passed a generic drug law, making New Jer sey the 32nd state to allow substitution of equivalent lower-priced generic drugs for higher-priced brand name products in the filling of prescriptions. bUMPER STICKERS JACK WAS A DETECTIVE LAST SUMMER.
